removing cargo panels - 4runner question

So i'm doing some stereo and wiring stuff, I want to remove the side panels in the back of the runner. I only found a few threads on it, all saying don't do it. But certainly some people must have. Any tricks?

What gen? I've done it on a second gen. Not overly hard. The seat belts are probably the worst part. Other than that they pretty much come off like any other panel would.

if you can get a speaker into that cargo panel that comes off then get a more sturdy fastener then you would have a killer speaker spot.

I removed part of mine and the fasteners are easily breakable.

3rd gen. I removed mine, and replaced with a newer panel. Have a 97 and installed one from an 01. No real problems, but some of the fasteners will break, but you can replace them.

My fasteners arent broken but in the bumps they do open. fortunatly i have ammo cans strapped infront of each one so the door doesnt open all the way.
