How do i get my water pump off?

I cant get the 4 bolts that hold the fan and clutch to the water pump loose, the pump shaft keeps spinning. I am sure I am missing something easy, but I cant figure it out, any help would be great, thanks, the truck is an 88' pickup with 22re

no you're not missing anything, those bolt are just a PITA. I found it worked best for me to tighten the alternator belt as tight as I could possible get it, then go at the bolts.

I found that using an impact motion rather than constant pressure worked better too.

If you put a wrench on one nut, then brace it against the fan shaft to hold it from turning you should be able then to loosen the other nuts off with another wrench.

I usually hold on to one of them, and loosen the other three first. when im on the last two, right before I loosen the last one, I jerk both of them trying to loosen them at the same time... i hope that makes sense.
