Rear Sway Bar for 1st Gen 4runner?

Where can I find a rear sway bar for a 1st gen runner?

I looked into Addco, but I couldn't find anything....any ideas?

There used to be one mounted on my 86 4runner, so I know there are companies out there that make that. Check with trailer companies, or RV/towing places to get your answer.

Thanks DeathCougar. I was kinda hoping to find obe where the bar stayed on the frame. hmmmmm.

I'm definitely looking to disconnect it when I get to the trail.

I'd rather not have to pull the whole sway bar off...or add yet another low hanging piece of equipment.

I just might need to do something custom.

Cool, hopefully someone has one taht mounts to the frame instead of the axle. But, the more I think about it, I doubt it. I don't have a spare tire under the bed anymore and most 1st gen's do. So, any aftermarket company would take that into consideration. I just might have to go custom. How does the 3rd gen setup work? Would that adapt easily top a 1st gen?

Northwest Offroad offers a kit that has a thicker than stock front bar, and also an add on rear bar.

I looked all over thier site and did not see any such kit.

I'm thinking of adapting a 2nd gen sway bar to my truck. I'm curious about the NWOR setup, though.

I have been thinking about trying to adapt the currie antirock swaybar to the rear...or something similar. Seems less evasive to the suspension.

Any thoughts?

I have the Addco rear on my truck, and can get pics up in a few days if you want.

Basically it U-bolts to the axle tube, and the endlinks attach to the passenger side shock mount and a hole in the frame on the driver's side. It definitely makes the truck handle nicer. It corners much more level than before and if I really am on it the back will just start to step out some on hard cornering (and I mean REALLY on it).

Deathrunner,

Addco is your only option, AFAIK. I have one installed in my 88 4Runner and it greatly reduces body roll both on the highway and in high speed cornering.. I ended up fabbing my own mounts for the axle because the u-bolt setup Addco provided kept slipping under my abusive driving style. I designed my brackets around energy suspension greasable poly bushings. I made weld in mounts and haven't had a problem since. Use Addco's stock number 382 rear bar. I made around 6 sets of axle mounts; PM me for info.

I'm thinking that I want to use ADDCO's model 464.

It's for teh 2nd gen and if it just replaceds the stock one, then it goes on the front of the axle, which I like better.

Either way I need to do custom stuff, so I might as well make it teh way I want. I no longer have factory shock positioning, so there would be no where to mount it according to thier instructions.

I could do custom mounting for the 88 bar, but I might as well go with the 2nd gen one.

My big concern now is, Do the 2nd gen guys hit thier gas tank with the sway bar when it is disconnected? I think it is far out enough not to be a problem.
