Basically any pre-85 tranny will drop in and fit.
After 85, it'll bolt up, may require changes in the floor due to overall length.

Marlin builds great L51HD transmissions. Upgraded bearings, upgraded gearsets.

Ive got an ifs (dont know the exact year) maybe 86-87 in my 82. Bellhousing and clutch are no prob, but you will need a new trans mount.

L series trannys will bolt right up. They are found on 83 and earlier trucks. Any 84-95 22re tranny (G or W series) will bolt up to the engine but they are longer then the early L trannys. So drive shaft and cross member work needs to be done if you use an 84-95 G or W series tranny. The pre84 L series trannies have weaker bearings and are more prone to failure then the later G and W series trannies. The L43 and 45 (4 speed) are supposedly weaker then the L50 and L52 (5 speed) trannies. Judging by the year of your truck you should have a L52 stock.
If you?re looking to put a G or W series in your truck, Budbuilt.com makes some killer cross members.
