suspension travel 1987 toyota

Oh - an MOST lifts don't increase that number any, they just re-center the suspension, trading off downtravel for ride height.
IMHO, put 33x10.50 on the stock rims and wheel the hell out of it.

I'm right there with TC. I just put some 33x10.50 BFG ATs on my truck and within the next month I'll have 4.88s and a rear locker. Stock suspension is more capable then you think. I can't wait to see the guys around my way when I bring her out next time and I'm blasting by them on there 4" lift and 35s, but stuck because they can't hook up.

Ummm - all that fabbability and tube work and you don't have a solid axle under there?
Well usually, the travel is limited by the factory bumpstops or fenders. Obviously, neither of those need apply to your rig... you are safe to add more compression travel, but there's not much room for droop without endangering the CV's.... and with IFS, more compression travel could just lead to you high centering the front diff, so it may not make sense for hard use.
Other option would be to do a Long Travel setup like Total Chaos.
