if its carbuerated with a manual fuel pump u take it off and the manual says to plug the holes with ur fingers and check for it to be airtight. Then u hold them in different orders and some lock it up and some arent supposed to. I replaced mine on my 85 for like 50 bucks.

It sounds like your fuel pump has gone bad.

Try the fuel pump test jumper, first:

never just assume its any particular part. Most of the specific fuel system parts dont just "fail" on a toyota. More often than not, its NOT the fuel pump, and I have never heard of a fuel filter SUDDENLY causing engine to stop.

#1 Do the 4Crawler suggested test
#2 make sure you have spark
#3 make sure it is in time

My pickup did almost the same thing about a month ago but just before it would die the check engine light would come on. It ended up that the egr valve was stuck and needed to be replaced.
