Looks like there'll be a very short final production run of the tops by the original manufacturer of these tops

I have a buddy looking for one to fit his 4runner as it is bobbed and is shorter would this be possible?

You'd have to talk to the guy that makes them to see if he'd do it. What I know about the tops are that the side rails are what are the most difficult to get, since they are custom extruded aluminum rails. He has about 15 pairs of those.

I'm pretty sure that he'll want more money to modify the design for the bobbed bed.

800 for a goofy lookint top? i can get a convertable top from downey for 500.

That "Downey" top is actually the STC/Kayline top that Downey resells (it's even the same marketing photo ). It is vinyl and will shrink and get stiff when cold. It also requires drilling about 40 holes in your 4Runner. Read through the thread linked in the above posting for more detailed info. (BTW, last I knew STC was in Denver, not too far from you.)

As they say, you get what you pay for...
