Replace 22re or rebuild?

I have an 86 engine in my 89 ex cab and blew a head gasket. I had a piston slap noise for a year before the head gasket went. I found a rebuilt long block for $1300. My question...is it less expensive to buy this long block or have somebody rebuild my engine. All I have time for is to pull the blown engine and install the new engine. I have to work on this outside so I have no place to tear down an engine. I appreciate any thoughts on this.

Check with Orient.com. They have long blocks for $1399 with a 3yr unlimited mileage warranty. Thats parts and LABOR warranty. I am having one installed now. Good luck.
