Is there not one made for the V6 transfer case? I was about to order one from All Pro when I noticed that it said 4cylinder only. I read further and it said that there is not one availible for the V6.

What's the deal here??

 

i have yet to see one for the V6. i recall reading somewhere there are differences between the years on the v6 model, so each year would need their own (someone correct me if i am wrong, this is from vague memory)

 

Alright, I had to add to this post to see if anyone can help. I have ordered everything under the sun for my 4Runner in the past few weeks. I have a MegaSquirt processor on the way, got new end links, ordered extended brake lines tonight (thanks Wabbit), I have timing covers on back order from Japan.....I could go on and on.

Anyway, I'm trying to finish my Runner up so I can finally start driving it again. Are there any options for a transfer case parking brake on a V6? Are the bolt patterns different on the 4 cylinder? Could I get the rotor and caliper and just mod it to work on my Runner?

I need a solution. I can't go without a parking brake. Can anyone help?

 

I think the issue with the V6 is mounting the caliper. On the 4cyl, the caliper assembly bolts directly to the T-case, via the existing t-case housing bolts.

If you've got some fab skills you could probably order the rotor and caliper from All-pro and rig up a cross member type support for the caliper.

 

Is there a reason for the t-case brake, have you gone with rear disc conversion?

If you have no other way to do a parking brake, then go this route. If ANY other option is available, i'd look into it pretty hard.

These parking brakes only work great if you make sure there is absolutely no grease in your rear driveline upper u-joint, in which case you'll likely destroy it within several thousand miles. If you keep your driveshaft properly greased, you'll note that it slings grease all over everything down there. Just the way it is.

For comparison on how well these work, think about taking axle grease, and coating your front brake rotors with that grease. Then think about trying to stop...no worky so well...
