Slipping A340H Auto Trans in 3rd Gear, 1993 V6 4x4
Whatsup guys, I recently picked up a 93 V6 Runner from a friend, it appears to shift into 3RD but slips. 1-R OK 1-2 OK but on the shift into 3rd it shifts at about 3,000-3,500rpm and appears to go into neutral and disengage 3rd. When I rev the engine it has zero effect on acceleration, and when I put it into neutral the truck seems to roll down the road a little smoother, like the clutch pack is worn away and causing more friction than neutral. I have tried hard shifting into 3rd and I got it to work twice, but then never again after many attempts. I just changed out the shift solenoids and I do not have any codes ( the O/D light and Check engine both flash about twice/second). I saved the old ATF fluid and added some Lucas, but nothing has changed.
Also about 150k on her, and the ATF was very dark
What do you believe is causing this?

Did you reuse the old ATF when you put it back together? And have you checked your TPS to see if it's working properly, auto trans. wont work as good if your tps is shot or out of adjustment. http://www.4crawler.com/4x4/CheapTricks/TPS/index.shtml

If you have the A340H, checking the TPS directly is a waste of time. Your transmission will do it for you!! http://web.archive.org/web/201408160...34electron.pdf (page AT-128) (On the 3VZE, it is difficult to reach the TPS connector. Checking it THROUGH the transmission not only checks the TPS, but the connection to the ECU.)
Since you don't have codes, you can have a solenoid that is electrically intact (no codes) but not switching. The only way to tell (without guessing) is to run the diagnostics in the manual. http://web.archive.org/web/201208020...autotrans.html

Which one? http://web.archive.org/web/200812091...31diagnosi.pdf
Your transmission is really smart -- for 1994. But there's only so much it can do for you. After that, you've got to Read the -Factory- Manual.
