That is the good one for the 1st gens and the older trucks.

A lot of times you will see people passing off the Tercel ones as the real deal.

The Tercel one doesn't have the altimeter on it.
Instead I think it has a 4WD light on it that lights up when in 4WD.

There doesn't appear to be a cover on that, just the guts and faceplate...

Yes, there are a lot of "fake" clinometer sets passed off through Ebay. "Partsmaster" is the worst. For the longest time he was passing off a lot of them as Genuine Truck/4Runner parts. Now I think he modified his description to say they can be used in Toyota trucks and 4Runners or other vehicles. It still seems to lead the bidder it was from a truck or 4Runner. It makes no mention of coming from a Tercel and needing mods to fit (I've made the Tercel style fit and did so about 4 years ago). I bid on that Japanese style for the second generation style, but I think it's going to go too high for my blood. I have a genuine 4Runner model from a first generation that I will install in my 2nd generation using the cover from the Tercel to fit right. I haven't done it yet, but it's on my to-do list....

Yeah, that last one is the overseas model that John Douglass got me earlier in the year.

It's made for the right hand drive 2nd gens and '89 to '95 trucks.
I might try and get a US dial to replace the altimeter with feet instead of metric

You can tweak 'em to go to 45 degrees.

Yep

It can be used in the older Toy's, but it's not the real 4Runner one.
'Tis a Tercel one for sure.

Notice how the seller states that too.
May be one of the old time sellers who was trying to pass it off as the 4Runner one too, and now has to include the word "Tercel" in the description.

Ahh, I just noticed. He is the same guy that Shawn mentioned in the post above.

The one listed on ebay http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/e...item=1875620446 . Can it be easily mounted in a 1st gen 4runner. Corey, I noticed yours is similar, but with a mount for 2nd gen's.

Martin, mine is the same one you listed from Ebay.
It's the Aussie 2nd gen Surf one, with metric for the altimeter.

I had a local stereo shop mod my base for me.
The original base had two bolts hanging out to go into two holes on the left side of the dash for right hand drive rigs.

The stereo guy put on a plastic base, and we used that Super Velcro you get at Radio Shack to hold it down.
He also put the cloth covering on it.

Mine was gray like the one on Ebay, and I used some interior blue paint, but he said it would be too reflective and blind me perhaps.

You might be able to get that one to fit a 1st gen, but I'm not sure.

After probably a couple years of trying to pass off Tercel clinometers as truck/4Runner ones, he's finally included that it's from a Tercel 4x4. How impressive. When I first saw his "error" a couple years ago, I sent him a polite email saying the clinometer is not for trucks/4Runners and requires modifications to fit and light up. This was back when ebay still let you view a user's email address before bidding on an auction. He replied back saying he's not doing anything wrong and is providing quality products at good pricing.
