Hmm, almost 2 months to disassemble, check, repair a tranny seems like a long time, but I've never had any tranny work done before so what do I know. Happy holidays Joe, let's hope it gets repaired soon.

This sucks.

I did receive my axle shims from 4Crawler. At least I'll be able to get a little something done here soon.

Happy Holidays to you all!
Happy Holidays to you too, and may your holidays be filled with a beautifully rebuilt, smooth, and reliable transmission!

How do you like this:

I got the transmission back in yesterday. Started right up, moved forward, moved backwards. Great! Put the back end of the truck up on blocks, dropped the rear end and installed the shims. Once everything was put back together I took it for a drive. Nothing changed with the vibration at +/- 22 mph. So I guess pinion angle wasn't the problem... I guess next I'll have the tires balanced again. I've found a number of posts where folks are complaining about getting the KO2s balanced.
I'm open to suggestions if anyone has any ideas as to what could be causing this vibration.
AND, last night we got snow and the temp this morning was about 23 degrees. Guess what? No high idle when I started it. WTF!?
My newly installed IACV not working? Just a fluke? It was working a few months ago at warmer temperatures. Sheesh.

But I'm happy to have it back on the road. I'll keep chipping away at these little issues while I drive it. It'll all work out...
In the meantime we're enjoying some playoff football!

And, this morning when I got in the truck I thought it smelled funny. Took me a minute to place the odor- it sat in the garage all that time with the Corona and it took on the urine nasty smell! Time for an air freshener!!

lol!

Shouldn't take that long for a transmission rebuild. I have gone through 4 autos (I am a little hard on them), all took about 1 - 2 weeks dependent on the businesses current work flow. But I am glad you got it back, and if its working then its all good. Potentially waiting on parts?

My KO2s are starting to shake a bit too at different speeds. Must have thrown a weight. I am going to have to re balance them this week.

Joe, i remember your idle issue but do not remember if you checked the tps last time. Checking the temp sensors in both the afm and the one next to the csi timer may be beneficial as well.

I can hardly stand the smell of old cat urine.

If you set 2 box fans on the tailgate, 1 pointing in and 1 out, with some open containers of baking soda on the seats it'll help a lot.

Thanks all. Arm & Hammer baking soda added to the shopping list...

So the idle issue gave me another clue this morning: started it up at 5am and it was 9 degrees - idled up to about 1500. Now I'm thinking I just need to adjust the opening on the IACV so that it doesn't have to be quite so dang cold for it to open.
And yes, ehatch, new TPS set to spec. Thanks. I'm probably going to pull and test those temp sensors, too. Just to be sure.

I have to admit it was something of a relief that it started so easily in that cold...

I'll keep y'all posted as I go.
Hope every one had a good New Years and 2018 is off to a good start!

Throwback Thursday

Nothing to report on the truck. Driving it every day. I've got about 3800k on the new motor, no more transmission problems, the idle seems to have settled into a nice groove- sitting right at 750 warm. Just loving it!
My back window has been acting up- I can only roll it down with the key and up with the switch in the center console. I haven't researched it yet but I'm betting the relay is crapping out...

I was going through some old photos and found a picture of my old van. 1986 Van- before the Previa. I bought it for $900 with 250K miles on it and then drove it another 100K. Sold it with a bad transmission and 350K miles on it for $700. I drove it cross-country 13 times over an eight year span. Proposed to my wife in it... man, loved that thing. No rust, clean interior... why did I ever sell it!?

Here's a pic somewhere (I think) in West Texas. Maybe south east Colorado? Somewhere around there.

Good news on the 4Runner (minus the back window)!

I am sure RAD4Runner will be by showing you how the back window works shortly.

I really like those funky Toyota Vans! This was in the era where Toyota was real creative with their vehicle names like the Toyota Truck and Toyota Van.

I would say you got your money's worth out of that Van.

Man, as I said before, Yotatech really helped me get through this project. It kept me motivated, it kept me inspired and it sure as heck answered a lot of questions.
Good luck and have fun with it!

Thanks guys.
I've not been here much lately. Just driving around Boone. Raising three girls. Working.
I am an amateur film photographer, still using my dad's 1974 Canon and I have some pictures:

Nice rebuild of your 4-Runner. I have a 94 Pickup that I'm restoring and fixing up. would be great to hear that you still have yours and are having fun taking it on trips.
