hey do they not make them for toyota pickups anymore and just jeeps?

do people just buy the jeep ones and mount them on the toyota or are they discontinued?

 

I'm not trying to be cruel and rip on someone's personal taste, but why the Smittybilt? There are so many other tube bumpers out there that are tougher, better overall quality, and IMO much better looking... I guess the Smittybilt ones are cheaper, but you'd probably end up replacing it sooner.

Last I heard smittybilt went belly up. I still see them for sale though. I always thought they looked nice, classic 80's off road truck styling.
But if you do get one, plan on it rusting out. That was a major issue with them.

 

I have been looking for one forever in the local papers and classified sites and have come up empty handed. I dont think they make them anymore, so just keep looking through the local classifieds for a used one. I too love the 80s smittybilt front bumpers and am dieing to get ahold of one.

 

my 86 has a full wrap.

love these things, and they rust like any metal, but mine are 15 years old, and not rusted, and i cannot even say how many parking lot dents these have made, but can say for certain, they all regretted hitting my truck

the last person who hit me, was a girl, backing up way too fast, and put a 2 foot long crease down her rear quarter panel.

lost a bit of paint from the rear trailer post, but thats it..

tough bumpers, and not too heavy either.
im keeping mine when i sell my truck and transfering them onto my new(er) truck.

i think the mounts are generic and will take some pix for you tomarrow. pm me.

also, troll craigslist, they pop up every month or so. (got all mine that way)
the double bar is my favorite.
side nerf-bars are door savers. (no-one parks close to my truck any more.


thats a bad pic and you can see some rock chips, and there is some surface rust, but no holes, after this long, they are my favorite on looks, durability and protectiveness on the body.

i can measure them too.

and the main problem (or only) is the side plastic caps fall off after a heavy crash or driving over a tree, or slamming into sand/snow banks.

 

the front rear combo is essential.
but the front wraps perfectly around the whole body.


here is a pic of the rear bottom tube, missing a rubber end cap.
notice,
even after the crash, the tube is still a perfect circle.
the rear bends on both ends to stay as flush w/the body as possible while giving a slight bend into the bumper for those whole get hit by it.
leaving nice dents, and not paint scratches (unless they hit the hitch!!!)

bout a month ago i was looking and reached the fact they shut down.

 

I just bought one for my 95 toyota pickup and was wondering if anyone could help me come up with an idea on how to mount it to my truck

 

I had one on my 86' 4runner, I'm not sure if the mounting locations would be the same, but it might give you an idea of how to mount it. Mine had to brackets that went under the body mounts for the front core support. Just remove the long bolt and washer slide the bumper into place and reinstall the bolts. The other mounting tabs went to the front crossmember. There were 2 bolts that threaded into the front. If you need a visual reference, look at Trail Gears winch mounting plate, it would be the same holes that it uses. (NOT the body mount holes, just the crossmember ones, lol.) Hope this gives you some ideas!

 

I have one on my 2000 Tacoma It was on my 83 Toyota 4x4

One just has to remove your bumper and decide just how you want to build your brackets.
I have mine tied into about 6 different spots.

I made a piece that goes across the bottom of the truck where the tie down and tow hook is Two bolts to that.

Made pieces that go into the front frame two bolts to there.

Also the two front cab mounts.

I have a 2" receiver mount my winch goes in.

It works for me

The older trucks are a little different

One just needs to look at the front and do some thinking.

Lol ive been keeping an eye out for over a year just about it. they very rarely come up around the east coast.

 

Maybe try calling around junkyards in your area

 

ive tried that too. Where i live theres not many junkyards around and the ones that are dont have many 1st gen 4runners or 2nd gen trucks

It will depend just how you define to much pain.

You will need to design and build your own mounting brackets or pay to have it done .
