Anyways... Some info:
We will start with my truck (the important part)
1986 (April build date wish she was 4 months older!)
Toyota 4Runner bare bones base model
22re (blown currently) and w56 transmission
This is my first truck (well driver) I had a couple s10 Blazers as a teen but couldn't drive them (due to being two very bad apples) around the same time I discovered toyotas and found a trade offer on a 4Runner and was in love! The truck drove amazing but was missing the tailgate due to accident but had clean title.
Drove daily and 4x4ing whenever I could plus some reasons I will get to later I blew the engine she sat for a few years and finally fixing her up.
Currently rebuilding engine more details to come...

Very glad I waited to mature a bit before getting my 4Runner back going again. I had a lot of crazy plans like solid axle with biggest lift I could with some 35s 5.29s and locked up. But now have realized that's way too radical for what I plan to use the truck for - daily driver that's still highly capable off road. My current plan is 1st getting engine running and truck back on the road (and trail!) and then putting a set of 32s on so I can do so safely my tires are all dry rotted
Phase 2- will be 2" body lift (may try for less when time comes) to accomadate 2" drive train lift (only thing I don't like about toyotas the t case hangs so low under the frame rails) wanna flat belly it with bud built skid plate. Bj spacers in front and RELAX torsion bars so I am not over stressing stuff and get some flex (lol) 63s in rear and some 33 m/t tires 4.88s and a spartan locker in the rear. Fab up some tube bumpers and sliders and it should be a solid start. After I wheel it and really find its limitations I will upgrade from there.
So that's the plan I know it's a long ways away but atleast achievable, I don't wanna make it a dedicated wheeler (at this point) I really think when I am in terrain beyond its limitations I will really have to weigh my options. Either a dedicated "truggy" or... Maybe a linked sas so I can keep it really low.
For now rebuilding engine. Torn down and all starting reassemble shouldn't be long now...
Few years back I did timing chain and head gasket. Didn't know bout YT yet so...
Mixed up bolts during reassemble consequently pinning the chain tensioner AND didn't know u had to short terminal to set ignition timing so was retarded for a couple years! No wonder I torched the piston!
All ready to drop in! Had rods resized and new bushings sized to wrist pin at Dustys Machine here in Vancouver pretty fast turn around time and great pricing. Plus they gave good advice without trying to upsale me. Namely the importance of turning the crank and how to tell for myself. Thankfully because I thought it was no big deal but after looking it over it was clear it would have wiped out the bearings in no time!
So spent sometime scraping gaskets. Went to install the lower intake and wow... Started by breaking a bolt so I called it a day. Went to hardware store and got 4 more (just in case) then while torquing intake again broke 6 bolts! Had to 'steal' a couple from the upper. Having talked to ENGNBLDR looks like it's a common issue just swap it out and torque it down.
So lesson learned= If a bolt (especially intake) gets tight with ratchet but when you go to torque it, it feels looser and wants to keep spinning and spinning and not wanting to torque, PULL IT OUT and replace it! M8 1.25x30
So now lower intake is installed. Freeze plugs! And oil plugs! Rear main seal! Oil strainer installed and went to install oil pan and ugh pulled a thread right on back corner, just I was getting on a roll too! Glad it's not in the truck!
So time to buy a helicoil kit (haven't used one of those in years!)
Lesson 2 learned= Don't torque the oil pan just snug em up and call it good!

Gonna do it right the first time while it's on the stand, not in the truck. Stripped hole is way in the back corner so would be a nightmare.
Didnt even get mad, I figured if it's gonna strip or break better now then later when it's in the truck and I'm on the trail 2 hrs from home
Got a helicoil kit yesterday, very nice to have! It came with a bunch so if any other threads strip I am covered.
Also got the lower "orings" for my injectors. The ones that go in the manifold, mine were so bad I can't believe they didn't leak!
Got 10 more m8 1.25x30 bolts pretty well covered now if anymore are defective.
Will try to update more pics soon. Have some with oil pan on but it's "invalid" as a progress pic since I get the feeling I may need to remove the oil pan to drill, tap, and helicoil the hole.
Actually back on November 18th just been putting my free time into fixing a few things here and there.
Still have a few things to get taken care of but it's been awesome being able to drive it. Has a great sound especially at idle she has a nice looby burble.
Dropped in Exhaust manifold on with new studs from the local hardware store Radiator dropped in Ain't it a beautiful Good fan clearance New grille put on and some of those headlamps that allow you to use a replaceable bulb will do the wiring upgrade soon. Definitely keeping it incandescent not a fan of hids
