Engine and Transmission mounts. What are you using?
81 Toyota 4X4 4spd. O'Reilly's doesn't show motor mounts being available, but shows the transmission mount is, Autozone shows both are available, as well as the Napa store. Is there somewhere else to get them? Any "high performance" ones? Thanks.

I bought my tranny from rockauto.com, they gave me different choices, from about 10$ to 60$. I bought the cheapest one and filled it with windshield eurethane. The holes didn't line up good and the threads stripped imediately so I would not recomend the cheap ones. Websites like trail gear, lowrange offroad and marlin offer heavy duty engine and tranny mounts (be ready for more vibration) or good quality stock replacements. I'm sure the more expensive ones from rockauto could do the job well too.

Thanks. I looked at Rockauto.com, but like you was not sure about the quality. My Napa store can get the tranny mount, and engine mounts, so I'll probably go with them. I'll see if I can come up with some aftermarket "heavy duty ones, but stock and simple is usually the best way to go. T he vibration issue is a problem. My truck doesn't ride like a Caddy anyway.

I have OEM engine mounts with 380,000 miles on my 87 4Runner. The tranny mount was toast when I bought the truck though. Put a used one in that had about 170,000. OEM is the way to go. If I needed to replace mine I'd buy them from the junkyard before I bought new.

I bought some from Rockauto.com, and put them in about 2 weeks ago. They fit perfect, and I'm very happy with them. The difference in the truck is amazing! If it didn't have load exhaust I couldn't even tell it was running. The old mounts were bad, and I've known that for a long time. Both engine mounts fell apart when I lifted the motor to change them, and the tranny mount was almost as bad. I tried to buy them from the local parts stores, but one didn't even list them, and NAPA said they were no longer available. The NAPA guy was helpful though and said he would try and order them. He understood when I told him about Rockauto.com and that I could have them in a few days. Thanks for the advise. Dean
