Down at the bottom of the panel when you open the program is a drop down box that is labeled "Split". You can select a 650/700/800MB recordable CD, and let her rip from there.

Split is for bridging, that is, the image then spans multiple disks. So, you get 700 mb on one, then whatever remains on the next. It doesn't compress to fit one disk like I am looking for. But thanks!

I see. But you can click on configure right next to the split box and put in a custom size of 700MB if you so choose. The rip will compress to that size and fit on one CD.

The "Configure" button only becomes active if you choose "Custom Size" in the dropdown. Then it allows you to enter a custom size to split at. So, if you enter 700 mb there, it will rip the movie into a 700 mb segment, then another that contains the remainder, just as if you had chosen 700 mb in the dropdown in the first place.

I appreciate the link, but that software just doesn't do what I need. It's not capable of compressing the video to fit one CD.

However, I am really liking the Magic DVD Ripper that was recommended. It took a couple of hours to really understand how to manipulate it to get a good balance of compression and size, but last night I ripped a 2:02:01 long movie in DivX format to exactly 700 mb and it's quite viewable.

Thanks for the tip!

Here's a nice write-up on compressing DVD's to XviD/DivX, I use the software to store individual episodes from TV series DVD's to my hard drive, and you can set the file size to just about any size you want.

Overally, so far, I am sold.

That's funny because I rip with the custom all the time at 900-1000 MB and it never splits. I'm going to try it @ 700 and see.

I haven't tried the magic ripper, but I use Nero with the overburn turned on. Never have had a problem.
