I dont see the appeal of those interface effects... Personally I like to click a program and run it. Not to mention running Vista is like running a high end game, then you put a high end online game ontop of it and its lag city. I'd rather not double my RAM, upgrade my mobo to a PCI express, Upgrade to a 7600+ geforce card, and buy a new AMD dual core processor. O and ontop of that $800-$1000 I have to drop what like $250 for a copy of 64 bit Vista that isnt even out of beta?

I'd be curious to hear from the Vista converts as to what they feel they got out of moving to Vista...

Dont see a point to it and wont upgrade, I liked 2000 and 98se honestly and on XP I run it on windows classic..

I dont care for all sorta fancy features, function over form.

stupid question.. will vista run in windows classic mode?
If I get a new dell with it, would my wireless network card for windows 98 and up work in it? (the network card is around 3 or 4 years old)

here's what I'm looking into:

Genuine Windows Vista Business Unit Price $1,452.00 (Vista home basic is $99 less, not sure if it matters)

Dimension 9200 Intel Core2 Duo Processor E6600 (Intel Core2 Duo Processor E6600 (4MB L2 Cache,2.4GHz,1066 FSB)
Operating System Genuine Windows Vista Business
Memory 2GB Dual Channel DDR2 SDRAM at 667MHz - 2 DIMMs
Video Cards 256MB nVidia Geforce 7300LE TurboCache
Hard Drive 80GB Serial ATA Hard Drive (7200RPM) w/DataBurst Cache
CD or DVD Drive Dual Drives: 16x DVD-ROM Drive + 16x DVD+/-RW w/ dbl layer write capable
Sound Cards Integrated 7.1 Channel Audio
Speakers Dell A525 30 Watt 2.1 Stereo Speakers with Subwoofer
Office Productivity Software (Pre-Installed) Microsoft? Office Basic 2007 - Word, Excel + Outlook email

Sounds like a pretty badass desktop to me. You are going to need a bigger hard drive that that. Vista Home Premium and up take up about 20gb of space on its own.

I put a 250 in my new desktop and an probably going to add two more in RAID 0. One is starting to get full VERY fast.

Theres a pretty good chance that your wireless card will work. It wouldnt suprise me if vista even had a driver for it already.
