New Counter Strike

Some here have bought the game Half Life 2 which also comes with Counter Strike Source, a very good shooter game.

I am use to futuristic 1st person shooters such as Unreal Tournament and UT 2004, Quake III, and others.

This is a very nice realistic game with two sides.
Terrorists and anti terrorist groups.

One thing with this game is when you die you do not respawn like in other games.
When you die, you are dead until the next match.
The matches are short & sweet though, only lasting about 3 minutes max or so, so the wait is not to bad if you get slaughtered a lot.

A cool feature of the game is you can hit the "T" key and shoot a custom spray paint at the ground or on the wall for others to see.
The game already comes with many different ones, but you can also make your own.

Here is a Counter Strike site with info on how to create your own.

With that info I experimented earlier this morning and came up with this custom one of me and the rig

The rig looks squashed sizing it to the recommended 256x256 size, but hey, it was the first one I tried making.

If enough people on the forum here get this game, maybe we can start having some matches like we do with UT on the weekends.
I have to admit I did not think Counter Strike would be that fun to play, but it is.
It takes a lot of skill to stay alive in this game.
And yes, it is multiplayer only.
You can create your own games too and host them, but you can not add bots to it, same as in the multiplayer part of Half Life.
Makes it more interesting to play with all live people.

I'd get it, but I wasted about 4 years of my life on the first one

I'm not going NEAR the 2nd one.

Scofco, I hear ya.
I never got into the first one, as it got hacked a lot and there were to many cheaters making it not fun to play.

John, sounds like you got some good games there.

Both my sons were taking turns on my PC Xmas to play World Of Warcraft.
Talk about a kickass game.
They use to both be into Diablo II a lot, and this is like of like it, but a lot better.

Graphics are top notch, and the other day the Blizzard server owners put up look what appear to be Xmas lights on some of the structures.

Only thing is you have to pay to play, like Everquest.
They paid for a few months up front, and after seeing the game, I think it is worth it.

I might could set up a dedicated CS server. That would be a blast. I'm more into the realistic weapons more than the futuristic type like UT.

Oh, is it the regular Counter Strike or Condition Zero that you're playing?

Neither game Danny, it is an all brand new Counter Strike.

You must buy Half Life 2 in order to get it, it is on the install discs.

The cool thing about both games is that security is really tight since someone(s) broke into Valves database a year ago and stole the source code for HL2 and delayed the game.

When you install the game now, you must enter a profile ID and password, and all of your updating to both games is done automatically running in the background.

This game is not for those on dialup, as the patches are often huge, and you need broadband running in the background to get the patches.
It is all done through a 3rd party called Steam.

Not sure if there are many dedicated CC Source sites out there yet, as I have not looked yet, except finding this one to get the spray paint info from.

PS, Google found some.

Since some of you have Halflife already have you tried "Day of Defeat"? I play it occationally and has become my favorite mod. It's similar to Counter Strike in the fact that it's realistic, but placed in the WW2 theater. The maps are team based, such as capture the Axis/Allied flag, and you get to respawn after you die.

Have not tried that one yet Volcam, but I see it listed in the Steam ap when I click on it.

Danny, I think I may have been wrong.
I fired up Counter Strike a bit ago, and it says it is version 1.6, and gave a website.
http://counter-strike.net/

Looks like this game may be free.
When you click on the download icon, it takes you to the Steam app which you must install first, then you may be able to get the game right from it.

If this game is free, that would be cool, we could get a match going for next weekend.

I spend lots of time everyday playing counterstrike and source, I just got source for christmas and it's really good... but I have to go back to cs 1.6 every now and then cause I like some of the maps and the character design better. The one's in source kinda look like they're hunchbacks lol

scofco, me too,.. I don't even wanna think about how many months added up all together I've spent on cs lol. but around here there's not really anything else to do,.

I don't have any of that image editing software on my comp for the custom sprays. Are there any free programs I could download for that?

You do not really need Photoshop.
I have it, but I used Microsoft Picture It to crop and resize the image of my rig, and also later on another one of my Logitech Z680 speakers.

If you have a pic you like, you can also resize it with a Power Toy from MS called Image Resizer if you have XP, but you can not crop with it.
There are many free software programs that will though, and a few threads on the forum where to get them.

Member Drew and I were playing a private game with just the two of us so he could show me some tricks to surviving in the game.
He plays quite often.

Here is a picture of our two sprays.

Now I thought CS Source was the 1.6 version.
When I fired it up that is the version # it showed me.

Thanks for the link, got the image resizer and after some time, got it working.. problem is if you have a larger or smaller image, it really isn't that great of quality after resizing it,.

kinda weird that they called source 1.6 too. When they switched servers over from valve to steam, they upgraded regular cs from 1.5 to 1.6.

when I search for a server on reg. cs, over half of what comes up is for source. maybe that's cause both of them are called 1.6?

One more thing about this game.
Not only does it have type chat like most all games now, it also has voice chat.
Hit the "K" key or whatever other key you want to bind, and your voice goes to everyone on your team.

The enemy team can not hear you.
To bad, it would be a lot of fun to harrass the other team

Voice quality is great to by the way.
I was using just a standard PC mic plugged into the sound card.
I think I want to get the Logitech 200 USB headphones someday.

i've been playing it a little bit over the last few weeks. i have been an avid Medal of Honor: allied assault player as well as Raven Shield. so i compare everything thing to those games.

CS:Source is pretty fun, just basically the original CS (which i didn't care much for) with the new physics and graphics of the HL 2 engine. the buy feature can get annoying sometimes when you're getting your trash kicked and the all enemy has the expensive stuff, and you got a pistol... but you get quite the rambo feeling if you take them out.

the quickness of the game can be fun, too, so that you're not sitting around forever. and there is a way to configure the server, if you are it's admin, to enable full player voice chat

Danny, can you get a CS server setup by the weekend?
If so, will it be on the same box as Unreal?

It would be kind of nice to play CS with some on here, and a change from UT for a bit.

If you can set one up, I would set the matches to run about 4 minutes each, and there might be a way in the main admin panel for the dedicated server to allow voice chat so both teams can hear each other from what luvmytruck posted.

Talk about taunting each other
