Danny, when I fire up the new Counter Strike Source that came on my Half Life 2 CD, it says it is version 1.6.

You should be able to get it at the URL I posted earlier, and it downloads and updates automaticaly from the client called Steam that runs in the sys tray by your clock.

from what i read the console command for voice chat for all is:

sv_alltalk 1

so the admin of the server must enable it.

also, from what i understand, counterstrike 1.6 is just the latest version of the original counterstrike, where as source is an new version of counterstrike using the halflife 2 engine.

on some HL:2 packages you can get all of valve's previous games. the package i bought lets me install HL:2, CS:Source and all the games associated with HL:2 as well as all the previous games associated with the original half life, like CS and day of defeat.

 

The disc set I got only had the new HL2 on it and CS Source.
I was able to get the side scoller game called Code Gordon or something like that.
It DL'd through Steam.

So...those with the regular 1.6 should be able to connect to a game with those of us who have the CS Source version that came on the HL2 CDs?

 

i believe they are different games. sort of like unreal tournament and UT 2003.

 

This coming Monday Steam is updating you so you can add bots to the games.

This will be cool, as I often like to "fake host" a game with just me and bots to practice instead of playing with real people.

I hope they do this for Half Life 2 multiplayer too.

that would be incredibly sweet if you could setup a server. I played the original CS off and on for the last 4 years. If you set it up would you mind giving out admin access to some people ? I was an admin for a server for about 2 years so im familiar with it
