Mac users... M'soft Office question...

I have Office 2004 on my iBook G4, and recently, Excel has been trying to open the most random filetypes that I don't think would ever be associated with Excel. And somehow it's the default opener.

Example: I tried to download WMPlayer for OSX, and it downloaded in a .bin file, which then would only be opened by Excel, which then said it wasn't a valid filetype. What gives? This is pissing me off, and I'm not extremely knowledgeable about computers, so any help would be great!

Here's what to do..

"Get info" (cmd-I) on the different file types that shouldn't be opening in Excel, but are. From there, change "open with" to the correct application, and hit "Change All".

Tada!

You'll want to to open a .bin file with Stuffit. If you downlond and install the Free Stuffit Expander, it should fix it all by itself.

The other day I was having trouble with my G3 doing strange things. My son took a look at it; we rebooted it several times, reset the PRAM, and even rebuilt the desktop. All to no avail. However, we did notice that if we unplugged the keyboard and then started up the MAC that all was fine until I started using Excel. When I went to restart the MAC I went to unplug the keyboard and noticed that it was plugged in through the joystick connector. I removed the joystick from the equation and I now had a direct connection for the keyboard. Now everything works fine. It was at this point that I realized I moved some note pads and placed them on the joystick where they were activating some buttons and causing me all of those headaches.

The point is look for something simple or something that you recently changed. You may find your solution there.

Now can someone tell me how to post a new thread? I tried yesterday and when I got to the part where I reviewed my question I couldn't locate the Post Question button.

Apple no longer includes Stuffit Expander with Mac OS X we have to install it on all the setups we do at work. Sounds like you should also repair permissions using Disk Utility in the Utilities folder under Applications. Then restart the computer and try it again.
