So my motherboard fried on my PC (leaking capacitors... that's a new one on me for a home system). Just bought an old iBook (blue ) for $200 to tide me over until I can order a new mobo for the PC.

I'm actually impressed with it, considering the specs:

Mac OS X
300Mhz
288MB SDRAM
3GB HDD

Not what I'd call a gaming machine by any means, but it is working great for surfing the net and listening to tunes. iTunes is quite the spiffy setup aswell.

I am thinking it's time to sell the PC and get a quality Mac machine... tell me I'd be saying that 5 years ago and I'd have said you were crazy

ooh, so ya made the big switch.

i'm a big time PC guy, but the macs are, finally, growing on me. my sisters swear by them, we're always razzing each other about pc vs mac. when i found out that macs can support windows and a right click mouse, that made em a true possibility for me.

and i gotta admit, i do love itunes
yeah, i have it on my pc.

 

For one guys, they have iTunes for the PC. I like the new Macs, but you still get way more bang for your buck out of a PC. I will admit, although I may not buy it because I have WinXP tuned for perfectly right now, that an x86 version of OSX would totally rock. I hope this doesn't turn inot a Mac vs. PC thread.

happens more often then most think.. one of the main reasons a motherboard goes bad.

 

I'm even thinking of switching when my current setup goes bad and I have the cash to upgrade.

 

Scofco, you may not want to totally abandon the pc. Don't get me wrong I love my Titanium, but when it comes to gaming and affordability the pc is still king. You'll love the mac too for its photo and video editing, not to mention being able to multitask well beyond what the pc is capable of for now. Software is a bit pricey, but worth the cost. I still haven't tossed my pc's yet because made for mac games and those ported to mac are not as abundant. But the mac is the best photo chopn', dvd burnin', next to impossible to crash putter there is. Not to mention very few viruses get through if any. Just my two cents.

 

Price and poor OpenGL support prevent me from getting a Mac, but they are definitely awesome!

Not unless you're doing a lot of CAD work or something. Hopefully when I'm out of college I will be able to afford whatever they have to offer in high end computers. It's just a shame that Macs aren't more standardized. That would make prices plummet for sure, but Apple likes to hold the reigns pretty tight on what vendors they support for add in upgrades.

On the other hand, I can't wait to build a PC with a multi-core processor and all the other goodies that are coming out.
