Info on 4gb sd cards?

To all the techies out there, I'm looking into getting a 4gb sd card. I have a digital camcorder, which is a few years old that stores the movie clips on sd cards. Since I haven't used sd cards in awhile and knowing the prices have dropped, I decided to look for one.

What I've seen on macmall, e-cost and buy.com are brands I haven't heard of in prices ranging from $80 - $150. I'm wondering why Sandisk or the others are not popping up on my searches. I use these three sites specifically as I've had good luck w/ them. Any help would be appreciated. The brands I've seen are Transcend and Patriot.

I've only seen the 4gb in compact flash from Sandisk, not SD. What you really may want to find out is if your camcorder will even except a 4gb card, i know some devices especially older ones will only except up to 1gb cards.

buy.com has a 1gb micro SD w/ sd loader for $33 ($25 with rebate) plus free shipping. I have one in my Q and it works great.

SD cards are FAT 16 and only support up to 2GB. Anything over 2GB requires SDHC (SD High Capacity) which is NOT backwards compatible with older hardware (ie: your camera).

you can find out more info on 4GB and larger SDHC cards at SanDisk http://tinyurl.com/lgr8b

whatever you end up with, keep in mind the read rates (mb per second and such) there are some really good deals on SD and flash drives, but if you find the specs, some are very slow, and may be bad for certain applications

just earlier today (expired now) outpost.com had a kingston 2gb for 17.99 after a 20 rebate, with free shipping, (i dont know what the speed was) but the prices on these things have dropped dramatically, and you could get multiple smaller cards that may be more compatible with your equipment cheaper than one large one

Thanks guys. No, I really don't need 4 gigs but I thought for the price, why not. I didn't realize 2 was max so I'll probably stick w/ that. I have seen some for pretty low prices.

I remember when a 256mb one cost $60 and this was a deal...
