just to add to RDC...

like today, i was working on a machine that i GHOSTed the previous HD onto a portable USB drive.

so i needed to retrieve individual files off it. unfortunately, the GHOST program i carried didnt have the GHOST EXPLORER program with it.

so i RDC'ed into my main work machine. i clicked on the DRIVES checkbox so i can the remote machine (my work one) can see the drives on the one i was working on.

i ran the GHOST EXPLORER program and i selected the \\TSCLIENT\C... drive (that's how the remote drives show up on RDC) which had the GHOST image.

so essentially, i ran program on a remote machine, which used a data file on the portable drive connected to local machine. it then wrote the extracted files back to the DESKTOP folder on the local...

more fun and tricks...

at work, we have a strict firewall policy. they dont like to issue static IP addresses.

so on a secondary web server i run, which has a static IP addy, i can RDC into it from my home. then once i'm in that, i open an RDC session to my work machine (which has a leased IP) so i can grab a file off it... saves me the hour roundtrip drive...

tip #2: to bring up the TASK MANAGER on a RDC, you can use the standard CTRL-ALT-DEL. cause that will bring up the TASK MANAGER on your LOCAL machine...

no biggie... just CTRL-ALT-END... does the exact thing on the remote machine.

FWIW, people who uses the silly windows XP WELCOME LOGIN SCREEN, with the stupid icons, CTRL-ALT-DEL brings up the TASK MAN immediately. those who turned of the WELCOME LOGIN SCREEN (as should everyone...) will get the WINDOWS SECURITY, and one of the buttons to click is the TASK MAN...

tip#3: wanna see a weird network printing? RDC it... yup... just check (actually, by default it's checked already) the PRINTER checkbox under the OPTIONS -> LOCAL RESOURCES tab, and now the printers on the local machine shows up on the remote machine's PRINTERS control panel...

so if you run program on the remote machine and issue the PRINT command from it, you can actually print to the printer next to you, from a machine miles away... lol...

dood... CTRL-SHIFT-ESC. TaskMan comes right up, no menu pick required.
