"drive is in use by another application" error
OK... more DVDShrink/DVD Drive questions...
After some help from the board, I got my DVDRom to read DVDs again (apparently I needed to clean the lens). I use DVDShrink to rip and burn DVDs - ok, technically I use Nero to burn, but it's "embedded" in DVDShrink, so...
Anyways... lately I've been getting an error when the burn phase begins that my burner is in use by another application. It gives me this error all the time - even if I start my computer and try to backup a movie (i.e. when nothing should be using the drive).
Does this sound like a software issue? Hardware conflict (IRQ perhaps)? Something else?
Any tips would be great - I'm way past frustrated.

I've got EZ CD Creator (Roxio), but that was installed long before DVD Shrink and never caused any problem until now. Could DVD playback software be an issue? Perhaps I'll reinstall Nero/DVD Shrink just to be on the safe side?

Is there anything else you changed recently? Such as, did you update to Windows Media Player 10 or download some other movie viewing software?

Try what... uninstalling roxio, or reinstalling nero/dvdshrink?
Nope - the computer has sat (not even plugged in) for about 2 months. When I hooked it back up, I started having problems. First it was problems reading DVDs (which I fixed, then burned a DVD without any problems), now this. I don't even have internet access at home, so updates aren't a possibilty. I haven't installed anything in a while, so I can't see how that would be an issue.
FWIW... when I started having the problem, I did uninstall a few DVD playback utilities.

If none of this works, try un-installing roxio, and see if it'll burn that way. Just gotta go through all the steps... basic elimination.

I reinstalled DVDShrink - no dice. So I just cut to the chase... uninstalled Roxio and both drives, windows reinstalled the drives and everything seems to be working fine again. Burned 2 DVDs last night - thanks.

Roxio is Nero's competitor, and I bet there is an ap running by Roxio in the background that monitors your drive.
I would uninstall Roxio completely, then see if that clears it up.
Oooops, I see you did just that, and it worked.
I did not see your last post here, trying to rush and get off here to leave for work soon.
But yeah, Roxio was using a resourse that messed with Nero.

whoops he did that
Roxio is causing your problem. unistall roxio. if you really don't want to uninstall roxio.
one is roxio loaded in the background?
if: it is remove it from the boot process.
go to
START RUN type in (msconfig)
under the startup tap look for the roxio aplication and uncheck it. uncheck other unnessary programs and it will improve your system performance. make sure spooler, svchost, video and sound drivers antivirus are left alone
reboot the system you'll get a (your running in dignostic mode) or something of the like. check the box saying don't show me again
if your still getting the error then unistall roxio.
