yep, ham license is good for that lol. better than running cb freq's too. but yeah it does get you out of trouble with the cops for having a scanner. Those 2 meter radios pickup the regular emergency service frequencies.

I did hear of one case in ny where a guy got a ticket anyway, and had to go to court to have it thrown out, but the ny law says if you have a transceiver for a frequency that you are licensed to operate its legit.

I've got my cb below my stereo, and my scanner on the top of the dash on the passenger's side. It kind of sucks having it in plain view, but it was the only place I could put it since it is originally an indoor/desk scanner, not really supposed to be put in a car...

Sorry for the big pic. I had My Cobra on the glove box but ended up getting this unit so it'll fit.

What type of police scanner are you looking for? The one piece ~$50 cobra ones have to be mounted on the windshield or the dash so that it can scan 360 degrees. I've heard of some have a control box with seperate sensors that you can mount in the front grill, but those cost more

I used to have a police scanner, it worked alright. Never really saved me from a ticket. Mostly just annoyed me every time it went off. Plus if you live in the city a lot of things other then police radars can set them off. After I while I realized it wasn't doing me any good and I just started to drive slower. Driving the speed limit helps gas mileage!

Me thinks you are getting
Scanner
mixed up with
Radar Detector

A scanner listens to radio transmissions - like a patrol car talking to HQ. Its WHAT they say thats important. Its really useful for things like snow storms when you can listen to the plows call in their location and the road conditions.

A radar detector "looks" for the microwaves used by radar speed guns. Unfortunately - in some cases, - those frequencies are also used for other things (garage door openers?) and thus you get false signals. Like anything else - but espically electonics - you get what you pay for. If you are in the "game" - buy the best or dont bother - Valentine 1.

Here is my setup. I have a CB, scanner and external speaker for scanner are bolted together and mounted under the dash. The t-case shifter comes really close to the scanner in 4-LO. This has been setup like this for 7 or 8 years now.

Maglight has clips like that.

Ask at a "uniform" shop - i.e. place that sells Police uniforms etc.

Yes those are Maglight clips. Be careful because they can be brittle. I had to buy another set since one of them shattered when I was putting the light back. I have a set of stainless steel clips that are sold at marine stores as well when these break.

Yeah I have a lot of stuff in the cab of my truck from my days of spending money on less useful things for my truck. I have since gotten my priorities in order, and have a 98 2RZ-FE engine, Competition Clutch 1620 6 puck clutch, Marlin Crawler 2/3RZ conversion bellhousing, 87 R151F turbo tranny and dual cases with 4.7's for the rear case and FROR crossmember/skidplate going in. This is that my junk looks like on the outside.
