Garmin eTrex USB connector

I wonder how long this has been out?
http://shop.garmin.com/accessory.jsp...0%2D10310%2D00

I have dreamed of a USB connector to update the firmware on my little yellow eTrex.
I have the serial cable that connects the Garmin to a PC with serial interface, but new PC I built a few years back does not have serial.

My old P3 500 does, but I would rather update with my new PC.

You still have to use the old serial cable though, but it plugs into the new USB cable.
Pretty cool.
I want to get it updated to try it out on the upcoming Fall Colors run.

Anyone using one of these new cables?

The above one goes to the PCs USB port, and connects to the serial one in the picture below.
That is the current cable I have.

Just found out my firmware is upto date.
# Unit Software

* eTrex Ver. 2.14 as of Jun 14, 2002 Download

But I would still need this cable in order to hook it up to use my mapping software to upload the trip runs to the PC to make a map of the run like Rob does.

I use it for my legend. From some threads on geocaching.com it seems like it works for some people and doesn't for others. Sometimes the software has trouble seeing the gps. It works for me just fine. If I were you I'd toss the etrex and get a new color gps that comes with a usb already.

the port on my etrex legend C is just a small usb port. you can use any usb cable with that style plug on the end.
