Cobra 18WXSTII vs. 75WXST

Point blank...which one of these is better for a first time CB? The weather option will get used the most until I can find out who else in my area has a CB. The 75WX is about $25 more than the 18WX but it seems like the installation would be a HECK of a lot easier but I almost like having the CB in the DIN slot for some reason.

I've searched and haven't found opinions on which one of these is the most practical for the novice user. Money isn't a huge deal since we're only talking about $25-$30 difference.

What do you guys think? I will be mounting the FireStik II in the door jamb of my rear hatch as many of you have.

Advise me!

Fink

I got the Cobra 75 as you can purchase additional remotes and antennas and then use the Cobra 75 handset in any vehicle...thus I move mine from the tow rig to the trail rig by changing one connection.

Is it necessary to get an external speaker?

I have the 18, if I could do it over, I would have gone with the 75.

I got the 18 with firestik and mounts for 50, so I guess I cant complain.

Matt,

Why would you have gone with the 75?

As far as ease of use I think either would be fine. I have the 18 because I also liked the idea of putting it in the DIN slot. I run with several guys who have the 75s and they like those too. I am happy with my setup and I really think it comes down to which you like the most.

I think I'm leaning towards the 18 too...I just like the DIN slot idea, although I do use that pocket a lot. Oh well, less space for junk to accumulate.

Keep postin up guys,

Fink

I actually dont like using the din slot. I think the 75 looks a lot cleaner also. And as previously aforementioned, the 75 can be transferred to different vehicles with ease.

i have the 75, but dont have my antenna for it (fixing that this weekend!)

i like it because i can transport it between vehicles, and my passengers can also be my radio-men, even the ones in the rear.

also, i mounted mine so i can use it standing outside of the truck, so i have all the controls in my hand.

You have any pics of your setup?

I'm looking into purchasing a CB as well, but would like to see some pictures of where others have mounted their CBs besides the empty din location.

Lee, what model(s) were you looking into? One small enough to fit the ashtray slot would be nice.

Ive got the Cobra 18WXII, mounted in the DIN slot, I love it, I think it looks factory, and with the Front Firing speaker, thats a nice option. Im not to worried about moving to another vehicle, as I only have one,
(not that lucky yet) that I wheel with for now but when i do get a "trail" rig, Ill just get another radio, it was only $50
Im sure you have seen plenty of pics of the DIN slot install. so i wont post pics up, lol
it works for me.
