what is the best cb radio's out there for under $150???

and while we are on this topic what is the best antenna?

 

Are you asking about hardmount antennas or magnetic mount ones? The CB you get will not really make a big difference, although Cobra has a pretty good clarity booster with some of their more high-end models. I have no problems with my Cobra 75WXST and 2000 series mag-mount antenna.

I got my CB stuff from Amazon.com when they had some sort of sale going.

They ship very fast, and I have bought from them twice now in the past 6 weeks or so.

I prefer Firestik II 4' antennas.

I have heard good things about that CB and am looking for a more permanent antenna setup on back bumper .

 

I've had good luck in the past with pacetronics (www.pacetronics.com). I've ordered several radios and antennas from them and have had excellent customer service and rapid delivery.

If you are looking for a basic, no-frills radio, the Cobra and Uniden models are pretty good. I think many members here are using Cobra radios and like them. If you don't need to use SSB, you can save more money by getting a radio that doesn't have them.

The back bumper can be a pretty good place to mount an antenna, except that it gets in the way of opening/closing the tailgate. A quick disconnect like the Hustler would be a good investment here. You may even be able to use an existing hole in the bumper to mount the antenna to so you won't have to drill.

Antenna height for a more permanent setup becomes a concern if you have to go into parking garages, etc... It's kind of a pain to run out and take down the antenna before you go into a parking garage while people are waiting behind you.

I didn't care too much about range as I primarily used it for off-roading and range wasn't really an issue. It did great on the hiway as well but I never really tested its limits. I was using a Cobra C75 for its "storability" and all in hand convenience. I would have gotten one for the Ex but found a deal on a midland setup that allowed me to use the CB as a hand held or in my truck and it was a good price so I went for the Midland instead. Here are the two setups I have used and have been great for me so far, but like I said, I didn't have high expectations nor did I need a high power CB.

My old Uniden GrantXL worked awesome. It has greach range and is a very good radio with incoming RF gain, noise blanking and also has high and low power transmit and Mic gain plus SSB. If you have the room for it, that is a good choice. I got a refurb unit from Uniden's on-line store. That and a 4' Firestik-II and you are set. I have a Cobra75 now, sort of marginal radio compared to the GrantXL, but it is small and I needed the room the Uniden took up:

i dont know, i had 3 of my friends buy cobras from walmart for 30 buks each and antennas from a local truck stop for 25 buks each and they do pretty good on off road and thats all we need.

 

Them guy's are not a shop they are Doctors and Surgeons with a hell of an operating room, I have used them for 10+ years and they never been disappointed their selection of radio's they have is awesome and you can get a very nice used peeked and tuned radio from them for about the cost of a new radio without the peek and tune, As for the antenna WILSON 1000 or 5000 mag mounts can't be beat unless you go to a hard mount coil antenna

Find a older CORBRA 29 LTD you can't go wrong with it also look for a noise cancelling mic like an ASTAIC Road King or Sky Thumper Also another really good place to buy from and very good tech I use when I can't get to DesMoines to Walcott is here and he has the 29 ltd for sale in the sale area for $89 bucks 29 for the noise cancelling mic Sky thump for $27, Astatac for $20 and $34 for Wilson 1000

hey.. im thinking about getting a cb. Not completely sure what to expect though. people making small talk or a lot of breaker breaker one nine. are they fun?

 

It's especially enjoyable when in a group, but even on the road alone, it's kind of nice.
