Okay, here's my basic stereo that works like a charm in my '87 pickup. I noticed that it has this input in the back:


I believe this input was originally for cd changers, etc. I bought an adapter that converts a headphone jack into this 13-pin (kenwood?) input - allowing me to play audio from my phone to the stereo. Seems simple enough, right?

What I can't figure out is how to tell the stereo that I want it to play what's coming through the auxilliary input and not the radio - any ideas? Here's the front:

 

I'm gonna say this with nothing to back it up but I highly doubt it will work, mayby with a lot of customizing? In 87 I'm not even sure if this existed but I could be wrong?? Might be a plug to go to a factory 4 runner amp set-up?? Are you looking for an aux for a external audio device without upgrading your deck?? I'm sure someone else will chime in here. Oh my bad you said to hook up your phone, if nothing else search fm mod and you will see your solution, or you could get one of those fm transmitter things that I hate or you could get a new deck.

 

This is not the stereo that came with my truck, I think it came out of a corolla or something. Still, all the info I come across online says that this is an input, so there's got to be a way to tell the stereo to "listen" to that input. I'm guessing it's some key combination or something. Can't find the manual to the stereo online anywhere either.

 

Can you take a picture of the top of the stereo that has the information on it? Or just post it here?

 

Wait, is this an aftermarket stereo like the Kenwood that you mentioned or an OEM stereo from another Toyota vehicle?

If it is an OEM unit, I would think pressing the CD or AUX button the the main unit would switch it from the radio to that incoming signal, your mp3 player/phone.

If this was an aftermarket stereo, my Pioneer single CD/stereo allows for an auxiliary input, but I have to turn on that setting with the ignition set to accessory, to power the stereo, and with the stereo off. From there I press and hold a certain button and within that setting I tell it to turn on the AUX input.

 

You need to find CD Changer mode, if it's an aftermarket unit, my pioneer had to be turned off and reset into options mode and enable the CD Changer there.

 

All that work... or for $65 this
