rear speakers

Everyone has told me that the rear speakers in a 2nd gen. 4runner are 5 1/4" speakers. So i took the rear panels off and my 90 4runner has 4" speakers with the factory amps so how does a 5 1/4" or 6 1/2" speakers fit. Do i need to remove the factory amp speaker box's Please help i need some INFO. thank you Tony

I put 5 1/2" in mine 2 nd gen rear, just trimmed the existing opening a little and slipped the speaker right in there. I then used drywall screws to secure the speaker in place, worked great.
