Mobile video Question.. concerns on power and install..
So I've come into some money lately (well for me it is a lot for an 18 year old college student) and I've decided to treat myself to some car additions.
I've seen some people with 2nd Gen's that have installed a video monitor in the opening where the stock CD player and Cassette player would go. I was wondering if anyone has done this, and if so.. could walk me through and just give me the general direction that I need to go to accomplish this.
What I have seen, is they mounted there headunit where the Cig. lighter and change drawer would go. So if someone knows how to do that aswell and would be willing to help me out, it would be greatly appreciated.
One more question.. by installing a single video monitor (not sure what size.. i think maybe 5.6 is what they use) and adding a new headunit.. will I need an amp? If so, whats the smallest i can use, and still have the availabilty to expand to three monitors (one in the dash, two in the headrests)?
I know this may all sound confusing, but I know there are some smart guys around here and I really hope you guys can help me out.
Thanks
Kyle

The thing now is to buy a double din in-dash dvd player. If you want to put a 5.6 or bigger stand alone screen in your most liley going to have locate your cd players and stuff. Its easier to buy a all in one, thier run about $1400 for the awsome eclipse ones

^^^ agreed.
i don't know what exactly you were asking but you don't need an amp for the screens. you can run as many screens as you want. there should be a stock like amp for the speakers built into just about any dvd/deck, if that's the way you choose to go.

What gen is a 90 toy pick-up? I'm looking for the best place to put my screen (just got it today!!!!). I was thinking of moving my cd player down into the little pocket, and putting the screen where the cd player is currently located (factory position)

im not looking to spend $1400 though. plus i hate the look of flip-out tvs. they look to gaudy imo.
heres a pic of one i have seen..

he has the monitor flush into the dash and the headunit mounted below it.
and thanks for the info on the amp. i really didnt want to have to buy one.

Have you considered monitors in the sunvisors? This would make the installation alot easier. In the picture, it looks like he mounted the headunit were the ashtray is. (It may be very difficult to make this installation look clean.) A sunvisor installation will also conceal the monitor(s) when not in use.

P.S.
Here are some pictures from my 1997 4runner.

I've been looking around for a while so I have seen everything. Installing sunvisor monitors and wiring it all up seems rather hard and pricy so i was avoiding them. if your still selling all that stuff, PM me though. we can talk.

That is a completely custom job. If you have the patience and the fiberglassing/eletronics knowledge you can get it done for pretty cheap. Although it is not easy. Looks like he took an lcd out of it's case and made his own using his dash as a starting point.
From what I can tell you dont' have much expierence with any of this. To do that project you would have to know some electronics (soldiering and reconnecting/changing the lcd wires) and a lot of autobody (fiberglass/bondo the custom dash) plus finishing it (sanding/painting). What looks to be somewhat simple can easily take 10-50hrs or work maybe more. I've started and quit nearly the same job, finding that it was not worth the effort. The lcd is not hideable and it will reflect a lot of glare during the day making it useless for anything other than night.
My advice, if you have a 2din radio opening, get a headunit that can play dvd's and then get a seperate cheap e-bay lcd for the 2nd din. You would have what you want video/music and the ability to also play video in the headrests.

Thats going to be very compliacted and your going to most likley get a sucky picture. The screen is going to be at such a flat angle your not going to be able to look at it for long without straining your neck. Get a Indash like everyone else and save the haslet.
