Head Unit Resets When Starting?

I just scored a Pioneer DEH-1500 head unit and Kenwood 6" speakers from my dad for free. Other than a dead CD player it works great (not a big deal, because A. It was free, B. I have all of 2 cd's, and C. Pioneer hu's all use the same plug, so if I find another I simply unplug and replace). The problem is, it loses all my presets if the truck takes more than one spin to start. Usually it's not a problem, but every so often it'll have to spin the motor a couple times when it's cold because it likes to stall until it's warmed up. Is there a reasonably cheap/easy fix for this? Or should I just deal with it?

Yeah, you to wire the stereo correctly. There are 2 12V wires to connect. The constant 12V (usually a red one) connects to the battery. This is the one that maintains the memory presets. The other wire is the switched 12V (usually yellow). I believe that you have either your wires confused, or they are both connected to switched 12V power making it reset the memory when you crank the engine.

It's wired correctly, constant to constant 12v and switched to a keyed source. It doesn't always do it, only when the truck needs cranked for more than 2 or 3 revolutions of the motor.

The DEH series does, I could pull the head from my gf's car and put it right into my truck. It was chopped before I got the truck. It's 3 wires, nothing really to butcher. High end audio and my truck are two unrelated topics. I have a grand total of 35 bucks in this system, about 5 in buying connectors and rubber grommets and 30 for an fm modulator to plug my MP3 player into.

LOL w/e u want to think dude, i have a deh-p880prs, a deh-p7500mp, a deh-p6700mp and a deh-p8500 and only the 7500 and 6700 are the same.
$35 is cheap, good luck figuring it out
what u need is an ignition power, and a power that is on ALL the time... if you cant get it to work, run a power wire to the battery and fuse it (close to the batt)
it will work fine.

if you have it hooked to a 12V that's definitely constant 12V through a start (ie hooked directly to the battery) i'd start checking things like your battery connections and the condition of the battery itself. if the connections are crap you're going to see more voltage drop when the starter is cranking, which is pretty similar to temporarily disconnecting the constant 12V to the deck. same if the battery is weak.

use your trusty multimeter to check unloaded battery voltage, voltage during start, and charging voltage.

The battery is a yellow top Optima that's only a couple months old. Probably my battery terminals then.
