current problem with amp

I have a mrd- m605 alpine mono amp and i am getting a flashing cur warning on the display of the amp. This mean that I have too much current going to the amp. Does anybody know what could cause this or how I could possible fix it. If you need more info I will check back often and thanks in advance for any help.

id be willing to bet its not enough current. id be running a 4g power cable AND ground to it. what size wiring do you have now? are the connections on the terminals clean and tight?

The owner's manual says:
  • The amplifier has been shutdown due to excessive current.
  • Find and eliminate the cause of the excessive current, then turn the power off.
Not much help, but it sounds like the sub may be drawing too much current.

What's the rating of the sub? Did this just start happening? How long had it been working "fine"? When does it start happening? Immediately after power-up or after you've been cranking the tunes for a while?

The amp claims it can handle a 4 or 2 ohm load, it may be that you toasted the sub, or the sub has an intermittent short in the voice coil.

if the sub is drawing excessive current, its impedence is lower than it is supposed to be. (blown or damaged) run a multi meter across the subs + & - and see what the ohms reading is. it can vary slightly from what it is rated at but a big difference means its time for a new sub.

i did have a fuse blow and after I replaced the fuse I got the error.
The sub has been working fine for about 6 months and never pushed. the fuse blew when i was moving stuff and had a blanket over the amp for a while. Maybe it overheated.

VERY possible... does the error still come up now? I had asked some other questions above...

Do you have a DMM (multimeter)? Check the impedence of the sub - disconnect the sub from the amp, set the DMM to the lowest OHMS range, place the meter leads across the sub terminals (doesn't matter which to which), read the value.

If it's higher than the rated impedence of the sub (2, 4, 8 ohms?) or LOWER (like, zero) then the sub's cooked.
