Broke TV?
Hammering home a theme of uselessness lately, I have a TV problem.
Relevant beta:
-Oldish Sylvania TV. Bought in college 5 or so years ago.
-Left remote in Wisconsin so I have two universals I use.
-I can follow directions, but electronic ลลลล gets me
Turn the tube on to catch the news this morning. Remote starts to slip out of my hand as the toaster goes off, I grab it and hit what I presume is the info button on my RCA universal.
Suddenly the TV is quiet, there is the number 1 in each corner and in the north central part of the screen is 053-0.11 and a black square.
Now the remote won't work, I can't turn the channels or the remote using the buttons on the TV and unplugging does nothing.
The damn remote runs everything. I tried re-entering the code to make it run the TV, but it will not override the number bull ลลลล.
Someone is going to die.
Help me out, please.

I think the 053-0.11 refer to the thermodynamic properties of the antiferromagnetic using simple cubic and square lattices with nearest-neighbor and next-nearest-neighbor interactions that have been studied using a Monte Carlo technique. Although both systems were found to possess magnetic tricritical points, their behavior in the "tricritical region" differed from that found in He3-He4 mixtures.
yeah actually that is the only thing that pops up in google.... no idea what it means.. and without a doubt doesnt relate at all

actually, it is in what they call service mode, and has to be undone or taken out of with a different set of key(strokes) with a "service remote" by a technician supposedly

If you don't get yours fixed....
I have an older 27" Sony Trinitron w/remote for $150
It had a new power supply and diode(s) installed with everything else inspected and cleaned about 3 years ago by an authorized Sony service center (cost me $140~ for labor/parts). It was very rarley used since and hasn't been used at all in the last 2 years due to the fact it's in my storage unit. For it's age, it has a great picture and sound.
It's just like this one...

What's the model number of the set - I may be able to help.
You can also try unplugging the power from the wall, wait a bit (think "EFI FUSE") then plugging it back in. edit: "and unplugging does nothing." n/m...

It is SST 4272.
I was just flicking the power strip it is in. Right now it is unplugged and has been since last night. If 24 hours does nothing.
I too am impressed I did this without the right remote.

Yep, we had a Sony set go into service mode and had to call an authorized dealer to tell us how to get it off. I have also put a Motorola cellular phone into service mode. That's crazy that you did it inadvertantly and that quickly.
Just my curiosity: I'm not saying this is the thing to do, but if you either left it unplugged for long enough or discharged the capacitor, wouldn't that clear whatever "memory" and put it back to the state it was in?

Here's a factory remote, but I doubt that you couldn't replicate the "GET ME OUT OF THIS MODE!" function with the universal:

Here's the owner's manual:

This guy has the service manual as a PDF for $10: (search for SST4272)
http://www.icxinyi.com/EN/zlsearch.php
(still looking for more...)
This guy invites people to write him to postup the codes if there's one he doesn't have:
