1990 4runner rear speaker help

So I finally got an aftermarket alpine deck and got the toyota wiring harness to wire it up. When it was all wired up, I turned it on and everything worked fine....except the rear speakers. I've searched around on the internet and found some information about a stock amp for the rear speakers? Anyone have any more information about this? Removal? What it looks like? Should I keep it if I replace my rear speakers? How would I go about keeping/rewiring it? Also, im pretty new to car audio. The rear speakers aren't great. Do you guys think I should replace them with the same size? (probly 4 or 5") or rig some sort of new speaker box for some bigger speakers? Thanks so much!

i would pull out the speakers themselves and check if they're still good first or if its the amp. or it may even be bad wires or they arent hooked up right or something simple like that. but yeah if it were me i would replace them with a better brand speaker of the same size (kicker, rockford, jl, etc.) and then id try and get maybe a sub to put in the back to complete the system and sound great. but thats just my .02
Good luck!!

I had the same exact problem with a alpine head unit, Find the rear speaker wires on the head unit and buy about 50 ft of 16 or 18 gauge speaker wire and wire them straight to your speakers. Works fine.

Yes they have built in amp in the housing your gonna have to open it up an bypass the wiring for it to work.

Sorry if this is too late but I had the same problem with my alpine deck but, i connected the remote wire from the deck to the power antenna wire in the truck, and taped off the orange/black wire on the truck from the rear harness and everything works fine. the rear speakers are much louder tho so I had to move the fader up to the front to balance it out. But the reason why it works is bc the power antenna wire also tells the rear speaker amplifier to turn on so if you hook up the remote wire from the deck to the power antenna wire, it turns on the amp whenever the deck is powered up.

Hope this helps anyone with the same problem.
