Closing old polls?

I've noticed a lot of old needless polls being resurrected recently and was wondering...

Is there anyway for polls to have a maximum length? Perhaps something that closes the poll x number of days after the last reply (perhaps 30 days?)

At worst, make it so polls close after something like 60 days?

Is this even possible?

Yes there is.
The creator of the poll can set a time limit, and we can also shut them down.

But to go through all of the polls here and do this is a lot of work.

Someone with an extremely huge amount of time on their hands likes to raise them from the dead.

Interesting. Is there anyway to automate this process? Perhaps give polls a time limit automatically?

I think it is incumbant upon the poll starter to determine what length, if any, is appropriate for his topic.

It may be a good idea to set the default length of a poll to 30 or 60 days? That way the creator can choose to make it longer, but if it's not a big deal it will close on it's own. Also, just because a poll closes doesn't mean that the thread disappears.

I think some polls benefit from being left open indefinently. (my seafoam verdict thread, for instance..) What is the problem with certain threads remaining open?

It's not the thread, just the poll. If someone has somethign to add, they can resurrect the thread by replying to it. I jsut find it annoying when someone searchs for something...answers the poll with no responce, and then we get a resurrected thread for absolutly no reason.

Really...it doesn't matter.

I agree that it's annoying when there is suddenly like 10-15 polls resurrected from near death. I don't mind the occassional one or two but really... you got to be more constructive with your time then going through YT history just to answer polls.

A year or two ago I went and closed down almost every old poll I could find because at the time somebody was going around and voting really old ones back to the top. But, I left open the ones which could be relevant regardless of time. For example, the diesel one and the "which generation do you own" one.

this is what I'm talking about. If someone wants to add somthing constructive to a thread with a poll...they can post in it. Otherwise it just pollutes the real posts.

Also...that's why I think it would be best if the option to leave a poll open was available but not the standard.

Poll on V6 3L non-lead foot mpg... boring?

But how to determine if its of interest. For instance, I'd be interested in a poll of MPG on 3L V6 for self-described non-lead foots, ie: "normal driving". But I've read enough posts to suspect this is a "boring" subject to a lot of regulars.

My interest is the disparity in mpg results. If its true that a non-lead foot should yield 16-18, are there really that many trucks out of tune?
