Any shops in Washington doing SAS's on 2nd gen pickups? I've been looking for a decent '85 for a couple of months now, without much luck, so I'm thinking I may just have to buy a 2nd gen and get a SA on the front.

 

None on this side of the mountains I am willing to put in a good word for. The only one I have heard say they do SAS conversions and specialize in doing them is WWW.BigRocksOffroad.Com in Vancouver Wa. They use to be based here in Wenatchee but he unfortunatly left us. Blue

 

I've got a buddy in Kirkland who has done a couple SAS's . if you're interested, lemme know and I'll see what his availability is.

The majority of people on that board are from the greater Seattle area including myself. I did a SAS on my 87 4runner with some help from my brother. All you really need is some basic tools and good welding skilz, and the time to do it. If I had the time , I'd offer to do it for a minimal price and beer, but I absolutely don't have the time right now.

 

It depends on how you want you sas done, pre-fab brackets (junk) and such. I have done a # of them, and build all my own hardware,...

Good suggestion! I check out the SNORT board now and again, but didn't even think to post over there. Check with your buddies, if you don't mind. I'm still in the planning stage right now, would have to pick up a vehicle to do it on. Its the chicken before the egg scenario, need to know I can get help sas'ing it before I get the vehicle to SAS.

David, theres a 1981 Toyota p/u here in East Wenatchee. It has everything! $500 is what they want for it but I am waiting them out assuming they will get desperate and take $350. Want it? I will turn it over to you for the $350 if I can get it for that much. Ben

 

David, besides Crash here, Jeff @ Badland Bumpers also does SAS's.

He builds a lot of the stuff custom also instead of getting it from All Pro.

 

Thanks for the help/info guys. Ben- what kind of shape is the truck in? There's probably an advantage by going with a 2nd gen and sas'ing it. I seem to remember Crash saying at one point that some of the mounting/etc. on a 1st gen aren't all that strong, and you'll end up with a stronger setup in the long run going with a 2nd gen. Crash, you've got PM!

 

Its rough, not something to take the ladies out on the town in. I was only thinking being it has the front axle you need and then just sell the rest off for what you bought it for. You will prolly find an axle in a salvage yard over there for cheap. Ben

 

I'd go with Crash on these. I bet you'd get the best bang for your buck and end up with the best result!

 

You can also try S&N, but they will charge you more i'm sure.

Hey if anyone is doing an SAS on their truck...is there any chance i could show up and watch/help? i really wanna know how to do it. If not i understand, i may just get in the way. But it would be cool to watch someone else do it and learn from them.

 

I'm having work done by S&N right now, you'll find their prices very fair and very honest. Both S&N and Crash do excellent work at fair prices. You can't go wrong with either one!

David, Checkout the Longview great area. They have MASS older toys there. Everything from trucks to 4Runners. I know of a few places that even have a very good selection of front axles as well. Its about a 2 hour drive from Tacoma right off of I-5. But it would be worth it if your interested. I have a few friends down there I could see if they have any toys for sale!
