Rock sliders install help

Hey everyone! After doing some research I decided that I want to get some rock sliders for my 02 4runner. I have been looking a at couple of different options but I think I am going to go with these from WabFab because I am on a budget and I don't see a lot of rocks so the HREW tubing should be just fine:

http://www.wabfab.org/Rock-Sliders/R...ypage.tpl.html

After reading some other forums I decided that I want to get them welded on because I don't plan on selling my rig anytime soon (or ever)...The only problem is that I don't know how to weld and I don't know who I can take it to. I know that the installation can be difficult to get the angles and placement correct so does anyone have any ideas of who would know how to install them properly? Should I take them to a welding shop or should I try to find a specialty auto shop? Any ideas would be appreciated

By the way I live in Austin, TX so if there are any members out there in the area who can install sliders properly I would be willing to pay you! Thanks!

You could buy the same exact ones straight from the producer...

EDIT: and there are plenty members on the TTORA TX board that would be happy to help you weld those on..

Awesome! Those are even cheaper than WabFab...I will probably go with those if I can find someone who can install them correctly...

Check out the TX chapter of TTORA, I'm guessing you can get it done for a case of Shiner

Do you have a link for their website? I will probably get the ones without kickers because I simply don't need them...

TG sliders are 58". For a 3rd gen you want 66" IMO. Best to measure.

Which did you end up going with, the DOM or HREW? Got any pics of them mounted/installed?

I got the 78" HREW and they are more than strong enough. I also ordered the 8 leg kit for more support. I was planning on building my own but I have been so busy lately it was just easier and more cost effective to buy them.

You can see some pics at the bottom of the first page of my build thread.

Any other questions just let me know.

Hey guys I know that I started this thread a while ago so sorry to revive an old thread, but I figured that it is better than starting a new one...

So after I started this thread a while ago, I decided that sliders were not at the top of my list of modifications, but now that I am wheeling more I think they are definitely a necessity.

I would go with some trail gear or marlin crawler sliders, but since I started this thread I have installed a 1.5" body lift and I don't think thay they make any that would accomodate the 1.5" BL. Does anyone know where I can get some sliders that will fit with my 1.5" body lift?

If you are getting weld-on sliders (like the ones you list), just weld them on higher up on the frame to match the body lift. Typically no body lift puts the support tubes down at the bottom of the frame, so lift those up 1.5" to match the lift and weld them on there. If needed, you can angle cut the ends of the support tubes to tip the sliders up higher if needed.

Also, IIRC Marlin doesn't have anyone to build their armor yet. You'll have to wait a while for a set of Marlin sliders. If you're still concerned about welding your sliders on, you could go with Shrockworks sliders that install with simple hand tools:

They're pricey though. For a cheaper option just go with Trail Gear like you planned, but you will need to weld them on.

Thanks for the help guys. I actually ended up sending out a couple of emails to the various vendors (trail gear, 4X innovations, etc.) and asked them if a 1.5" body lift would have any sort of affect on how they are mounted. They told me exactly what 4Crawler mentioned, that they should just be mounted a little higher on the frame. They also said that it will probably be easier to mount them too because the frame will be easier to access due to the BL. So I found a place here who can weld them up so Im probably gonna go with some of the weld on sliders. Thanks again!

Make sure to post pics!! I just finished my body lift and am considering sliders.
Im a little confused as how to mount them; is it better if theyre closer to the bottom of the frame or in the middle of the frame? I would imagine mounting them lower will be stronger aswell as allowing them to be mounted at an angle up.

I don't think it makes much difference where the sliders are mounted on the frame. With a 3" body lift, I have mine flush with the top of the frame:

And any gussets on the support legs are simply installed under the leg instead of above it. Angling the ends of the legs a bit would probably be a little stronger than straight out if not using gussets. One advantage of a body lift is there is more room between the bottom of the frame and the rocker panel, so you could use a larger size support leg. For example, w/ no body lift, 1.5" is about all you can fit between the bottom of the frame and rocker panel without issues. With a body lift, I use 2" tube off the frame to match the size of the rest of the sliders, so that is stronger than 1.5" for sure.
