My summer projects thread

Well after the last thread where i welded the wings onto my TJM, I decided to start one comprehensive thread to cover all the summer projects I have for the runner. As some of you saw I actually MADE it to SE4RJ this year with my truck and it performed better than I ever expected on the trip out and back. It did not see the trails at Tellico since it was 2WD open but that will all be changing very soon.

I'll lay out the list of planned projects soon but we'll start with a little chop and bob for now.

So what do you do with a perfectly clean 4runner body ?

Chop it up of course

Buzz-Buzz-Buzz . . . . Grind-Grind-Grind

Little body filler to blend it in. . .

It's dark out now, but when i finish welding the other side and center section I'll take some profile and 3/4 shots so you can see it better in the daylight. It's turning out VERY well for my first sheet metal and body work EVER. I'm also cutting between 8-11 inches out of the bed when i finish up behind the back seats.

Sure, if you ever wanna come by and have a beer or shoot the s%*t feel free. I'd like to do a uwharrie trip next month when i get my front driveline stuff installed. BTW i provide beer and food for anyone who volunteers for wrenching help, and also return the favor. I really just like meeting cool local people who have the same hobby.

I'm also buying a tube bender this summer if you want some protection for that pretty sheet metal of yours

Nice... I should bite the bullet and do this to mine as well. Really seems like a good idea.

Looks like you will be retaining the power rear window? That would be sweet if so.

just the factory rails. Not worth enough to bother with. I do still have the yakima feet and bars in mint condition. Will be putting them in the for sale section soon.

I'm going to look this week for some 2nd gen or 3rd gen factory roof racks to bolt to an extra fiberglass top to use on my 86 or 88. It's going to be my safari top with no sides. I don't want to mess with those gutter type racks.

body work for the back of the cab is pretty much done. Bobbing the bed starts tomorrow, then I'm going to finish off the top of the bed to make it look like a normal bed, and blend it into the back of the cab.

also installed the front HP/5.29/ARB with the 30 spline longs. Now all i need is a working set of hubs and I'm good to go for 4WD. Going to setup the ARB compressor and switches/lines after the bed is done.
