Thanks for the invite, but I don't think I'll be able to make it. Thanksgiving is when things start to get crazy around work and I don't think I could get the time off. If something changes I'll let you know!
Your camping spot sounds awesome, do you have any plans to head out there this Spring? I need to get to Moab bad, but it looks like that won't happen until Spring.

But, we usually try to do a late May trip when they get out for summer too.

Let me know when the time comes and I'll see if I can make it. It's been way too long since I've gone out there.

Thanks! I hope the springs will come down a good 2" with the weight of the completed trailer, along with camping gear. It has 205's on it now which are about 25" tall, that leaves a 10" differance in tires (5" on each side). So I figure the trailer will set 2 or 3 inches higher than it does now. If I feel it sets too tall once it's completed I can always adjust the the shackle length and angle to lower it a little.

How do you plan on doing storage. Will you have several compartments with doors, or big slide out drawers? Maybe something completely different. Great work so far. I've really enjoyed this thread. It's definitely going in my hopefully someday folder.

ya see what happens? I don't check in on how the build is going, and you make some serious progress...
Looks SICK Dirtco. Lovin' the idea of the interchangable recievers. What are you gonna use for your off-road reciever?

Thanks!
Thanks! I would love to have large slide out drawers, but I really don't have the time or money to start that project before next season. I'm also concerned about the weight that would add to the trailer. The plan for now is to have a rear door and a door towards the front, I will have a couple Action Packers or Tubberwares for the smaller stuff and the larger stuff will get stuffed inside.
It's possible down the road I might add some drawers, but I really need to use it for a season before I make any final storage solutions. I need to figure out how to balance the weight best for the trailer and I need to see what I'm going to carry / use. I'm sure after a few trips things will get changed around and added / removed.
Thanks! This is what I would like to use for the off-road coupler.

For your off-road coupler, have you considered a pintle hook? Probably quite a bit cheaper, unless you're building your own.

Are those 6" shackles? Based on the angle I'm seeing, you may want to consider a 3.5" - 4" shackle anyway. As far as overall height, maybe consider a spring-under configuration; just roll your axle, flip spring-pin and u-bolts. My $.02

The shackle angle sucks, but the trailer is nowhere near done. It's just a couple sections of square tube. I still have to finish the trailer body bracing, skin it, mount the tent, rear door, floor, reinstall the gas tank, install a gas tank filler access panel, front storage access door, front fire wood/trash storage area, etc, etc, etc. All of this stuff adds weight and will change the shackle angle/spring rate, not to mention the camping gear inside the trailer. This is just a starting point, and will get fine tuned once the final weight is figured out.
I thought about running a pintle set up but I don't like the idea of it banging around all the time. Also, I don't have any pintle parts, so I would rather spend that money on a true off-road coupler and be done with the whole thing.
