I seem to have some time on my hands these days, and I wonder if any of you have made your own sway-bar disconnects (for those of you who still have IFS)? Any suggestions for sites I might look at? From what I've read on here its a pretty easy task, but I've not found any details.

i just took off my sway bar, problem solved
and i still drive like a madman and have not noticed any adverse effects of having it off, but i usually don't go over 65 on the freeway and 55 on the back roads, if you drive faster it may affect high speed handling

 

As my daily driver I dig the idea of being able to hook 'em back up. I know I could buy a pair, but since I'm currently short on funds, and long on time, I thought making some myself would be cool.

 

Look in the tech write up section--I think it Robinhood150 who had some pretty nice ones for sale and directions on how to make them. I need some too--group buy??

I feel like a fool. I've looked at Lars' website my own self, totally forgot he has a write up.
So here's my question, and I realize its pretty frivolus(sp?); would it be unreasonably difficult to find all the necessart parts in metric sizes so that no drilling would be necessary? All the bolts could easily be gotten, would just the heims be the hurdle?

I've read where you and others say that the diff between 1/2" and 12mm is negligible, but like I said, I've got time on my hands.

 

No, I don't sell them, but I did show how to make them. Lee used my design (which I got from off-road.com) and sold them, but some people were having problems with the rod ends breaking because he used smaller rod ends than I did. Cebby knows all about that. My discos are still going strong.

 

Where does get the rod ends? Not exactly a hardware store item are they? Or are they? If you guys would quite respondign to my post so quickly, I could go do a search. Sheesh...

 

I don't know if you have them where you live, but Orchard Supply Hardware carries them. I got mine from www.mcmastercarr.com, cheaper than OSH. The ones I made won't work for 3rd gens or tacos though, I think you'd have to go with one like Lars'. I forget whether lars uses rod ends.

I figured McMaster might have 'em, since they sell EVERYTHING.
I'm off to the Lars page right now, though I'm already pretty sure he does use the rod ends, as waskilly's had them and he credits Lars for the design.

 

I have a set of the NWOR discos. I used them a while back, then discovered that there is little difference in roll between bar and no bar, so off it all went.
