try contacting jhot_exports thru ebay - they seem to do large shipments and occasionally they are selling Hilux Surf parts - I can get the parts just can ship a tire carrier - too big and heavy.

E-mail sent to them. Oooooh their warehouse is in Georgia-only about 3 hours from me.

Oh boy, that's a dangerous site-JDM SR20DET and SR20VE VVL motors. Drop that into an older G20 and I'd have one fun 4 door car. Ah, remembering the days of my built SE-R. Alright enough-BACK TO TOPIC!

Quote: as far as i know, they didn't get the 3rd gen runner (surf) in AUS. they got the LC Prado instead.
Yup. The 3rd gens that are now in Oz are JDM Hilux Surfs imported from Japan. But there are also wrecking yards there. You might like to check out http://www.toyotasurf.asn.au

Brett,

Here's the answer to your PM (hope you don't mind):

My importer is willing to ship to the US straight from Japan. Only question is how are you going to pay him? He's a Japanese so you can either send payment to Japan or here in the Philippines (he's got a base here for his imports). Hilux Surfs here in the Philippines are JDM imports (3rd gens are limited in numbers only - most are 2nd gens) so no wrecking yards here. There are also a few 2nd/3rd gen 4Runners that have been imported from the US. Locally, Toyota sells the LC120 Prado.

HTH.

here's something i hadn't thought of..... will the JDM carrier support a 285, or even a 35" for me? with the position of the carrier on the body, will the dimensions of the tire become an issue? would it hit the rear bumper?

I have some measureing to do before I get back to you. First thing to do is see if the rear bumpers you have will even clear the tires you want to hang.

Picking up 100% rust free 1980's chain driven winches out here is not a problem.

how is the inside of your bumper designed? Is there any bend in the inside back of your bumper to accomidate a larger tire?? I ask b/c I am curious how yours looks to fit a 315.

I will go take measurements and pics

I will cover all of that, but it's going to be this afternoon when I write you back. This morning I have to get a set of rear axles boxed up.

I will make sure your bumper will work first before we go any further.

this might be an alternative, but i like the body mount better than the bumper/frame mount. i think the bumper would flex WAY too much for it...

Hum, I don't know-I've never done any overseas shipping or payments? Does he have a company-where he could take a credit card? Would I have to send it U.S.$ or Japanese$?

Mine has got a BFG LT285/75R16 on an 16"x8JJ alloy wheel with 4" BS. No, the spare tire doesn't touch the stock bumper.
Dunno about a bigger tire.
