FJ Cruiser Home Brew Rear Tube Bumper
UPDATE:
Updated: Here's some better finish pics not taken with a cell phone.
I added a hitch and plated it tonight. I'm going to be adding some gussets to the receiver when I get some more tips for my buddy's plasma cutter. I think it cleaned things up a bit and now it finally looks finished. I also added some d-ring tabs a couple of months ago and cut the tail pipe off. Now the Flowmaster sounds a lot better. Maybe I should start a build thread, because since doing this bumper I have added ICON CO's with external reservoirs, TC UCA's, and Fox rear shocks with external reservoirs. I'll be adding bump stops for the rear and be doing a front bumper within the next month or so.
It was a pain cutting a hole, even with a plasma.
Finished with a little paint on it. I'm gonna clean it up and paint it all this weekend.
Here's the latest progress in my rear bumper. Don't like the looks of the plate bumpers out there, so I decided to make my own. I've seen some that are similar to what I have, but not the same. It's still not finished, I need to cut it off and finish welding it up. I also need to clean up some of the bubble gum welds that I have. Then it's time to fab up some plate and receiver tube to make me a hitch. All in all, I think it turned out pretty good for my first time.
Total cost... $50!

Interesting design... looks good... may I ask the purpose of incorporating what looks to be the factory bumper liner plate? or is that the last frame cross member?

That is the last cross member. It also has the factory holes for the hitch mount. I will be adding some plate and receiver tube to it for another tow point.

I've actually thought about it. I've thought about bring some tube up around the whole rear quarter panel, down the fender, and have it tie into my sliders (sliders aren't on right now, I'm repainting them).
