That looks like the same ifs as our 2nd gen runners and pickups in the states, intiresting how they keept them through 97.

 

Wow, nice truck... I used to have a 98 Hilux STD...

 

I don't think they got IFS until 95 or 96. I think they had solid axled rigs until then. I could be wrong just something I heard.

Solid axle was standard, IFS was an option (I think?). In '96 they didnt switch to the newer coil-sprung front IFS they stayed with the torsion bar IFS.

 

Our 4Runners have had ifs since 87....In the Luxes or pickups I think you call them? The SR5 and extra cabs had ifs from 90-91. The base models continued with a live axle until the end of 97. From late 97 until 05 all the Luxes have had that same ifs setup. The new ones 05 on are coilover setup like your rigs. Australia has been the carmakers dumping ground for years they just keep running out all the leftovers to Oz LOL.

While I am here a quick update on the Lux barwork is just about to be sent off for powdercoating. I have also pulled the pin on the sas and coil rear

Well the barwork got completed and painted. Ended up colour matching it all. Started taking it out and using it again in 2 weeks of wheeling I managed to do my 3rd rear diff, steering dampner, snapped the idler arm (this one was fun getting out of the bush with no steering) tie rod ends and did a CV.
So I went out and bought an 85 dual cab. I also picked up a 22r cheap and plan on putting a turbo on it and running straight gas. Anyway heres the finished pics of the 98. The 85 will become the comp rig and using the 98 for family wheeling trips.

 

Ill start a thread on the 85 once I make some progress.

For now this one is pretty much finished, until I get the other one running.

Well quick update I have been wheeling it for a few months, I bought the wife a 120 Prado and tryed to sell the Lux. Couldnt get what I wanted for it so made some changes.

Pulled this from the 85



Purchased this from Trail Gear



Removed this from the Lux



And will continue cutting all this out tonight.



I also sold the 17s and bought some new rims and tyres, rims are being powdercoated at present.



I have also bought the Trail Gear rear kit to match and hope to have the majority done by the end of this weekend.

 

Boy, when you Aussies get it done, you really GET IT DONE! Good on ya!

Can't wait to see the finished work...

thats one clean truck. I love the bumper and bed also how the paint was done. I love that color and have had thoughts of painting mine 3rd gen forest green for awhile. I dont know if I will. but keep up the great work. thats thing will be badass BTW those are amazing looking welds great job
