'nother run idea...east side

Runnin' on Jeff's idea to run Box Canyon, I'd like to link that to Telegraph Canyon. Start in Florence and come out in Superior. I've never run it but I've heard good things about Telegraph Canyon. Could also do side trips to Martinez Mine and the Coke Ovens.

Possible camping trip?

Zona,
I know you, that link better not be people flashing or I'll get in trouble at work!

So when do we all get the matching jackets and tattoos for the thug az crew? I don't have to cap somebody to get in do I?

i was thinking sometime within the next month. We really need to start looking at fire restictions and forest closures if we're gonna be on Forest Service land. Nothing worse than driving three hours to find out the trail is closed. I'll look into it and make a few calls.

I'm totally in for this one!

Its in the Az Backroads book which says:

TELEGRAPH CANYON TRAIL

12.2 miles
Difficulty 5 out of 10
Scenic Rating 9 out of 10

Special Attractions:

Moderately Challenging rocky trail in scenic Telegraph Canyon
Remains of Oprhan Boy and Ajex Mines
Trail passes through a wide variety of desert scenery
Veiws of Picketpost Mountain, Superior and the Superstition Mountians.

One end of the trail is right off the 60 across the street from Montana Mountain trail (which is an easy and fun trail) and dead ends at Box Canyon. From there if we were to head north it would lead back to the 60 passing through the remains of the towns of Reymert and DeNoon.

But, if we were too head south on Box Canyon trail we would pass by The Adobe House, Mine Adits then through the actual Box Canyon which will eventually dump us out on the 79 in Florance.

Depending on how much time we want to spend out there, we could throw in a trip to The Coke Ovens or head over to the Martinez Mine cabins.

This might be one of those trips that we need to get together in advance and discuss over a few adult beverages to check out some maps and come up with a solid gameplan because we could spend hours upon hours out there and not see it all in one day.

Coke Ovens:

Martinez Mine Cabins:

The Adobe House:

John,

Telegraph Canyon Trail is not the trail to the Coke Oven, but it begins/ends at Box Canyon trial just north of the turn off to The Coke Ovens trail.

There are SO many trails out there to run, which is why I suggest we get together to check out some maps and come up with a plan because I don't think we'd be able to do it all in one day.

Hi to all the AZ crew. I've done a large portion of the trails out in the Florence area. I've driven a Jeep, FS Bronco and a quad. There's no way to run more than two/ three trails in one day. But hey, I'm in for a try... I've only begain driving my 4runner off road and i'm amazed at what they do stock. This week i'm putting in gears, lockers and sliders. I'd like to get together and do a run or something. I'm old to 4wheeling but new to the yota thing.

Hey yjzonie! Welcome to Yotatech! The Arizona group has been super active the past few months, and it seems to only be gaining speed!! I'm really excited about the amount of interest and turn outs with the Az crew. You are always welcome to anything we put together. And feel free to throw out any suggestions you may have.

I've been out to Florance quite a bit too and you're right - its going to be almost impossible to do more than a few trails in one day.

We are going to get together some time soon to enjoy a few brews and check out the maps and figure out which trails we want to hit up.

Keep your eye on this thread for updates. Last time we got together we met at 4 Peaks in Tempe. Hopefully we can meet up somewhere that is convienient for everyone. I live in Chandler but I'm willing to meet up just about anywhere.

I'm not a post whore, but rather read and go from there..

I'm down to get together and plan something.

I'll bring my Az Backroads adventures book. It has most of the trails in that area.

Any idea where we want to meet up at? I think 4 peaks was a great place - good food and drink, plenty of room for us if we got one of those tables on the patio. But, I am open for anywhere, maybe we should head north to accomidate those northerners since they seem to out number us.

Somewhere further north sounds fine to me. I'll let someone else pick the place since I know nothing up there.
