Well, when you consider the BLM probably manages the land and if you look at all the trash that others leave all over the place....is it really a wonder why? I couldn't think of any other reason....remember that trash pick up deal they had a little bit ago? They probably weighed all the trash and used it in court to cause, if not a temporary closure, a permanent one. Just my toss at a conspiracy theory.

Mesa, Ariz. (October 24, 2011) – Tonto National Forest officials today announced a major volunteer cleanup event on Saturday, November 5, 2011, 8 am – 3 pm in the Four Peaks-Sugar Loaf areas.
“When we last held this event in February, 2010, volunteers removed almost 25 tons of trash and debris from the forest,” said Mesa district ranger Art Wirtz. “This year we will focus our clean-up efforts on the areas east and west of Highway 87 for Sugarloaf and Four Peaks.”
Volunteers should bring their own lunch, wear closed-toe shoes, long pants/long sleeve shirts, and bring gloves. “Since we will be working to clean up shooting pits near Sugar Loaf, it would helpful if volunteers could also bring rakes, shovels, and magnetic brooms,” Wirtz said.
The Four Peaks volunteer registration area is approximately .5 mile east of Highway 87, near mile marker 204. Follow Highway 87 north to the Four Peaks Road (mile marker 204) and then follow the signs to sign in and get your assignment.
The Four Peaks-Sugarloaf event is organized by the Copper State 4 Wheelers Coordinator Chad Chaney, who can be contacted at chad@copperstate4wheelers.com.
For a variety of volunteer opportunities and application forms, please visit the Mesa Ranger District Volunteer website at www.mrdvolunteers.org. For more information, please call Mesa Ranger District at 480-610-3300.
If you are planning on attending, please go to www.mrdvolunteers.org and register - it is not a requirement, but it helps them get a better idea of what the turn out will be. Also on that site you can sign up to become a national forest volunteer. There is a section to register a one time group volunteer porject if we wanted to try and organize our own clean up effort somewhere like, hmmmm.......Butcher Jones! I know Roni and his crew would be down for that, and I'd definatley be all about it. It would be nice to have a Yotatech members clean up event.

Didnt want to quote the whole thing....
Jeff- I know Brandon can mass email all the local guys from Tacomaworld...maybe I can talk him into being a sponsor for who ever brings in the most trash (we'll see) might get a set of weld on sliders....I just might have to fork over the cost of steel for it and donate my time but I believe the turn out and effort would be much better if there was more on the line than just pride in where you wheel. Just food for thought...but some one would have to organize a roll off trash bin for the collection along with the ranger station.

My biggest concern about organizing something like this is timing. I am kinda booked up for the rest of the year after this weekend. When I get back from Christmas vacation I typically jump right into snowboard season. But I'm sure I could make the time between boarding trips to work on organizing this and making it happen. Maybe sometime in Feb - the original 4 Peaks Clean up's were always the first weekend of Feb and I always made it out then, I'm just not sure if there is time to put together something that extensive between now and then - I guess it depends on how big we want this to get - and what the BLM/Nat'l Forest has to say about it.

thats a great idea! Honestly, if there is enough interest by everyone here, I will volunteer to do the majority of the grunt work as far as contacting the BLM, Tonto Nat'l Forest and whoever needs to be contacted. I know Chad, the guy spearheading the 4 Peaks Clean up, I can get in touch with him and get his input. I can also reach out to Will at Sierra Expeditions to see if they would be willing to throw in for some give-a-ways or sponsorship funds for lunch or something. I'll even see if Corey will let me make a Yotatech banner of some sort to have at the staging area to represent. I'm sure I could get my company to make a cash donation of some sort to put towards whatever expenses we need it for.

They have been threatening to close that area since I moved here - over 10 years ago. I'm convinced they are just trying to scare some people away after that guy drove off the top of that huge hill at the first cove a few weeks ago. I have never seen so much helicopter activity out here as there was Sunday, plus that side-by-side that was harassing Nick... never seen anything like that out there before.

Butcher Jones clean up..
Alright, so I mentioned this to the owner of Avid, and he's on board. He said he's willing to put his money where my mouth is. More than willing to be a sponsor and put up something from Avid Off Road. That something would be determined by the person who brings out the most trash....details still need to be ironed out. I can't express how the trash at the cove where Roni met us disgusted me. So I guess I'm a little bothered by it and apparently it came across to the boss when I shared this idea with him. Even told him I'd put up the money for what ever and donate what ever of time is necessary.
