I actually haven't even driven it on the street yet, but it would probably need a sway bar to be safe. The coilovers are pretty soft. I keep tossing around the idea of hydro assist, but I think I'm just gonna hold out for full hydro steering since I trailer it anyway.
When you finish your SAS you'll wonder how you ever wheeled IFS in the first place. The difference is amazing and well worth it!

I have been into yots for the last ten years and I have lurked here for about the same amount of time.

The runner is my current priority and will be a mild build to include: bj spacers, all new bushings f and r, new joints, sway bar disconnects (only becaus I have them), ome 901's, 488's, a lsd rear and ? for the front. I picked this runner up because it is was clean, white, factory equipped with a 22re and cheap. I had thought I was going to do a sas and a rear leaf swap with all the parts I had collected over the years, but I think it is too heavy to have a slinky suspension. When I find a 488 ifs diff, I will have all the parts I need I will dig-in and start a build thread. Right now it rolls on 255/85r16 km1's, but I might try to squeeze 35's (Yes, I know it might take all of china to hack 35's into that set-up, but I have some ideas.)

Here is a picture of the runner that I found after Google-ling the vin number. Apparently, she had been passed around a bit, but she shines up nice for $1500...

If you crank them torsion bars up just a little when you put on the bj spacers you should have no problem fitting 35's! That's what I did and no rub unless I'm stuffing the tire.

Just thought I'd link back and remind us of how long this thread has become, the ground we've covered and friends we've made along the way. And, if you don't like it, I don't care.

UMMMM! I don't want to knock what you're telling the guy but speaking from some one who's actually done the BJ spacers and cranked the T-bars the reward of fitting 35's isn't worth the harsh ride. When I switched out the T-bars to the 21mm it softened the right a little but then again, I didn't have to crank em like I did the OEM's. And even lock to lock on the steering wheel I would rub the frame. So yeah, hack the frame and risk structural integrity if you'd like...I just dealt with em' rubbing. Oh yeah, I also had a 2" BL and I would still rub the front lower piece under the bumper..and out back...get any sort of flex and start stuffing a tire and you'll rub for damn sure. GL, choose your poison wisely and trim carefully.

Link to a video showing my 4Runner, hope it works. 4WD wasn't working the whole day, thankfully it had a locker in the rear.

Also, 87Deathtrap has one on his youtube channel where you clearly hear the rubbing. I'll see if I can find it and link to it as well.

WHY WOULD YOU CUT YOUR FRAME BECAUSE YOUR TIRES ARE RUBBING? Are you serious? It's called proper back spacing if you take the time to do a few measurements and not just throw a random set of tires on there you will be a lot happier. There is a guy on here running 37" Humvee tires and I don't think he has any rub he just went through and trimmed all the right places. Yeah at full crank my nobbies will barely rub on my torsion bar sometimes. It's all personal opinion, some people don't mind a little stiffer ride for the exchange of 35" tires. And for some reason people just expect their 20 year old rig to ride around like a Cadillac! I also have a tube front bumper and no rear so I'm not rubbing on the bumpers..

Mr. Fullerton...Proper back spacing is essential, I won't argue against that. Yes, take a tape measure and find out what will work on your rig. More specific to mine, they were a present from my wife who, at the time was my girlfriend. So I didn't have a say in the matter and I surely wasn't going to take them back. They were close. She was asked and knew the details of my 4Runner and the counter guy @ 4WheelParts made the best guess he could. Again, close but they still rubbed. Almost any way you slice it, there is going to be some rub some where if running 35" or greater on a stock body (no trimming) stock bumpers, etc.. Oh, the 35's were also a present from my wife...I guess you could say I'm a lucky guy that she cares that much about my interests. Not trying to brag, just saying. If I expected it to ride like a Cadillac I wouldn't be driving a 4Runner off road...I think we could all agree to this and harshness is a matter of opinion. Trimming the frame??? I would never suggest some one to do this unless they had some welding skills and had a plan together to gain the strength back...and yes, you can chop the frame for clearance issues and regain it back. But again, I don't suggest the average person do this. I believe the videos to speak for themselves and a true indication that rubbing does happen with 35's. I/ we are here for informative purposes (amongst others) and just trying to offer an opinion/ example of what my setup was and that it did rub.

Oh yeah, do you have any pictures of the tire rub on your T-bars?...if it's a 4Runner or Toyota truck, I'd really like to see this. I would like to express my appreciation for your response to my response, so thank you.

Haha yeah didnt mean torsion bars, I actually meant my sway bar. It just seems like a ridiculous idea to me to cut the frame to clear your tires but yes your right it is possible to do as is just about anything if you have good enough fab skills...

P.S. Sounds like you got a pretty awesome girl there...

Another Shakedown Run

Hey fellas, Gonna be dragging my junk out to Butcher Jones again for a pre-season shakedown on Sunday morning. Wanted to open it up to anyone that wants to go. This will be a very casual ordeal, just a little light wheeling and a stop at one of the coves to let my dog swim. The current plan is to meet up at the Chevron across from Fort McDowell by 7:00 to top off and be at BJ around 7:30.

Post up if you're coming out and I'll keep you in the loop if changes occur.
