It's a provincial park, so you were never allowed to camp there.

Well from what I understand (what the parks fellow told us when he said we had to leave), where we always camped never used to be in park boundaries. He said that the boundaries had been expanded a few years prior to include the whole lake, but they hadn't been enforcing it until last year. I just did a little searching around on the web and it looks like the road still isn't part of the park, but the area btwn the road & the lake is now...either way, it was a killer spot and I miss it.

Huh. I always thought the whole area was park. Good to know! My inlaws have a cabin up there (that road just after the 2km to the lake sign) and it would be nice to be able to dirt bike up there (no unliscensed vehicles allowed in the park) but if the road isn't a part of the park...

Does anyone know if the road at the end of the lake (sort of cuts to the left near a concrete foundation fyi-former Catermole Timber shack) goes far? Is it worth the drive?

I'm not sure about that road, was wondering myself last time I was up there. With all this talking about the lake, I think I'm going to go up there this weekend and check it out. If I can find the site about the park & boundaries etc, that I was looking at earlier I'll post the link for you (I'm at work and have switched pc's 3 times since then..lol).

I have often seen dirtbikes and quads on the forestry road though, and I don't recall ever seeing signs at the beginning saying they're not allowed. Even if it's not legal there, you can still go to Chipmunk, Foley etc that are really close by if you want to go riding.

So with all the great weather the last week or so I have been busting ot get out and explore a bit.

Me and a friend decided that it was time to see what Jones Lake was like. I had a buddy try and get up there 3 weeks ago and did not make it to lake with all the snow. The first camping are was easy to get too, no snow at all. Getting to the second camping area was a bit more of a chalenge. There was about 12-18" of very wet sticky snow. Once we made it past the first of the snow fields we came to the large concret bridge and it had servied the wet winter....bairly. After that is the next batch of snow that led to my first stuck 4x4ing I got of the trail a bit ant thats were it gets really deep. We were the first ones in that far and it was fun. The trip over all was great, need to get up there camping this year.

Here are a few pictures.

Stuck (need new tires)

ok were gonna meet at sasquatch inn @ 9:30, and head out no later than 10am sharp! plan is to hit secret lake on the way up to sunrise/hale creek. theres also the weaver/francis traverse (eric did you do that on your run? its pretty easy). then probably have a quick bbq or whatever at hale in the afternoon so bring some smokies or whatever...

should be a good day! 14* is forcasted for sunday..

Sounds good. I didn't do Weaver/Francis on Saturday, I let the guys with the chainsaws go up there to clear it

Nope on the 1, I always take Lougheed through Mission, taking the Port Mann always seems like going 10 km the wrong way first.

I did not do the Weaver/Francis on Saturday, from the looks of it its going to be a rocker killer . I will give it a shot but I'm almost stock so it should be intresting. I'm looking forward to trying the hard way in and out of Hail Creek, I took the easy way last time. I have not done Sunrise yet but I keep hearing about the V rock and want to give it a shot.

Jeremy

p.s. see you all at 9:30am Sunday

only the first obstacle through the weaver francis traverse i thought was the toughest...well not really tough, but my rear PS quarters got really close to that rock. i think the trail to secret lake is somewhere near there...so we'll have a look. probably end up doing secret lake then up harrison west to sunrise, then down to hale creek for a bbq. then find go from there. perhaps do the weaver francis on the way back down...

so heres the meet time & place guys: 9:30 meet at sasquatch inn. about 20-30 minutes east of sylvester road & lougheed hwy which is just outside of mission. leaving no later than 10am sharp! bring some dogs n smokies or whatever for the bbq...cant wait! oh..and if ya got cb..im on channel 4. i'll also have 1 FRS unit too. and my mobile is 604.626.2269
