1st, 1st Gen in 4ROC???

Hey guys check this thing out for me let me know what you honestly think. I really need to know what you feel about the buring oil(at times) and the starter that is slipping. Not like I really care because I would have a parts truck to take from. Just give me any detail or concern you would have if this were your purchase, all insight is welcome. I would like this to be mine so I could start building into it for the summer 4ROC trips sure to come.

CHECK IT OUT

Thanks in advance
-Scott

P.S. My name on 4x4wire is TheDarkOne, so that is me posting there.

The starter's not a big deal... but it's not the contacts if he has to hit it w/ a hammer.... it's the solenoid sticking. The oil burning isn't bad either, just a rebuild or an ENGINE SWAP. I say go for it. Looks like the nicest one I've seen in a while. If you don't want it, I'll take it.

Jason,

Thanks bud, I was questioning the starter thing as well, but oh well nothing that a new one wouldn't fix. ENGINE SWAP would be great but I'm more intersted in the trail abilities first off. I feel don't fix it unless it's broke. Plus I would already have a 22re form the 86' ready to roll. I would need your expertise in helping make the lil' 22re stroke up a few HP when the time comes. Either way thanks for the insight, everyone else, lets hear it, I'm ready to move as soon as I can get a loan, so lets hear what yall have to say.

I say do it! I love my first gen runner.
If you need any help with mods or general tech let me know
I have been all through mine. I also have a buddy that has the factory service manual for them (that helps a lot!)

obviously its not a new truck so it wont be perfect, but check for anything thats leaking fluid/oil, and make sure the motor/trans works up to your liking. Other than that it should be ok. Did he say if it had ever been in an accident before? You can tell if you look real close at the paint in certain areas like bolts. If the bolts have never been taken off (ie no scratches on them) then the paint is factory. Theres lots of small tips on being able to buy good used cars, but most apply for cars 5 years old or newer. Older cars can be a shot in the dark. Hope it all works out for ya.

What he means is...

If the bolts are original bolts, and the body panels line up well, with equal distances all around (dependant on the year, in this case we're pretty sure that Toyota still kept their ˟˟˟˟ in gear ) as far as gaps are concerned, and the original factory stickers are on the panels, then you're probably good. Unfortunately all the things I have just mentioned are things that a GOOD body shop would strive to do anyway. Other clues are missing bolts, overspray, uneven paint, etc... Orange peel in the paint isn't necessarily a good indicator, as a majority of cars come from the factory w/ orange peel on purpose... it's more durable apparently. Either way, best of luck to ya, and rely on your gut... don't let the excitement steer you into a lemon!

well first off the door is a different color so expect some type of wreck or 4 wheel abuse

i would check the frame for rust.....no really check the frame thats the backbone and you dont wanna have to take the whole thing apart to fix a rusty frame TRUST ME.

other than that check the 4 wheel drive and take that parts truck with you

i guess we need to see some pics when you get it home

She's home, and now the fun begins. I have 2,000 left over to go crazy, or at least as crazy as 2K allows. I gota get lifted first. The front springs have reverse arch going on and the tires are about bald so I guess needs come first and foremost. I'll get some pics as soon as I can. Thanks for all the help guys, I can't wait to hit the trails with this baby.

Oh the cash that will be flowing into some lucky company's hands fairly soon. I have got to get new front springs at least, but I don't wanna go APs up front and then leave my stock rears sitting where they are and end up looking like a PreRunner(cough Matt, cough cough) just kidding Matt I can't wait to see your baby on the trails again. I gota get gears, tires, springs, shocks, driveshaft and hy-steer possibly to handel all the droop. Anybody wanna for me, I could really use some help when these springs are ready to go in. I see a 4ROC wrench-a-thon that might need to be planned.
