HELP, 85' Runner, running me down??
I'm confused to no extent, I have been doing nothing but crunching numbers since I bought this beast. I have bad reverse arch in the front springs, bald 31" MTRs and a ˟˟˟˟ed up paint job. I need to get this thing trail ready and more like a rig then a glorified farm truck soon.
Knowing all that let me know what you guys would do and what you would do in order if you had $2,000 budget to get all this stuff done with? Let the ideas fly, nothing that isn't out of price range is out of the question.
Thanks in advance.

˟˟˟˟ the paint... it's a trail rig... save the paint for later...
Fix the springs, i.e. some new ones... that'll work for your suspension lift. Dunno how much that'll cost ya...I'm sure you could find some faily cheap. You need to fix your suspension first, b/c w/o a reliable one, your rig is DANGEROUS.
GET NEW TIRES. Contact patch is critical... whether it's trail or street. You need new tires. Contact me or someone else up here if you need tires... I can help ya! I've got a buddy selling some 33" MT/Rs ON RIMS for $650. I'd do these second only b/c you shouldn't be driving on a bad suspension, good tires or not...
LOCKERS and/or GEARS... if you take care of the lockers and gears first, you'll go places you wouldn't w/ just a lift. But, since you're taking care of the lift w/ the new leafs, you're set! You know how much that stuff will cost you... ;-)
What about the starter? Wasn't it having issues? If you can't start it you can't drive it! ;-)

well . . . if you want an entire new suspension you could do the complete allpro kit.
Kit includes:
Hy-Steer™ Crossover Steering
IFS steering mount, reinforcement plate and template
Front spring hanger with mounting tabs, bolts and bushings
Front 1.5" greasable shackles
Rear 1.5" greasable shackles
Front long travel leaf springs, bushings, spring pad
Rear long travel 56" long leaf spring, bushings
Heavy duty rear spring hangers
Front U bolt flip kit (2 plates and 4 U bolts)
Rear perch kit and shock mounts
Front and rear extended brake lines (set of three)
Steering stabilizer
2 Shock hoops and 4 hoop braces
Front and rear 5100 Bilstein shocks
a little pricey at $1,800 but you could do without some of the parts to drop the price. depends on what condition parts like your shackles, steering etc are in

I'm all over the All Pro idea as well, I thought about chevies and 44044s but then that's just cash invested in a hodge podge system and so many ppl. just upgrade away fromt hat set-up as soon as they get the $$$ and right now I acutally have the $$$. I need to know where I can get a good deal on driveshafts as well, 2K flys out the door really fast with all this stuff. My shackles are finr right now, they are really long(trail hazzard if you ask me) but they are brand new so they can wait for now.
Jason, do you know what the tread looks like on those MTRs(how much is left) and would he be willing to seperate the wheels and tires and give me a better price? Get back to me on that if you would. I may also may have a deal with Jeremy, one way or another I'll figure something out.
My major concerns now that yall
have helped me out there, is driveshafts. I was told w/ 4" lift and 33s possibly 35s I would need a CV driveshaft and I could use another 85 front shaft for the rear in that case. Help me out this is one place I have no experiance or understanding of the subject.
Thanks again guys.

local fabrication shops can lengthen a driveshaft, theres even some specialty places that do alot of driveshaft work. Ive heard of it costing like $50-$200 per shaft but ive never really gone and asked. Like most things you can spend as little or as much as you want

i seen custom ones for about $350 with all the slip you need
i have heard about using a mini front, i am actually lookin for one myself but would have to cut it and use the CV part and a longer slip joint and part of my runners original shaft but i am not sure about the 1st gens rear
oh yea you better get macco.....rattle can is a bitch esp on a whole rig. doesnt macco charge like $200 for a basic paint job??

That's what I figure, that is why I'm going All Pro Bilstein 5100s maybe 5150s. Hy-steer(Marlin or All Pro) <--- which is better they seem the same to me?
Do it once and do it right is the way I prefer things. So if a good deal can be found for drivshafts then I'll replace front and rear. This is getting more and more expensive.
Anyone got some links to a good place for quality driveshafts?

How much are we talking Jermey I really like the looks of your skid plate so I would really like to see some of their other products. Do they have a web site you could give me a link too. I'm gona try on my own to find it but just in case, help me out.
As for driveshafts, someone tell me exactly what they would run front and rear if they were going to lift an 85' Runner 4 - 4.5"(kinda worried about that height of springs after seeing Matts ride, but hopefully it won't be that bad on a stock solid axel) I would like my COG to be kept low. I have no idea what all the driveshaft mubo jumbo is, there are way to many options and on all the other boards every has a differnt opinion, I'm sticking with you guys, it's much easier, and I haven't been led astray by anyone yet.
What for the rear?
What for the front(if needed)?
Thanks in advance.

Thier hy-steer is the same price as everyone elses, i just like it better. The pieces of steel they machine them out of are stronger than the moulded pieces of other vendors. The skid plate is actually on sale this month too.
You should read the suspension install instructions on allpro's site, its specifically for factory solid axle trucks.
Lift install
here's a small part specifically addressing driveshafts
"When installing a lift of 4" or more it is common to have rear driveshaft vibrations due to the U-Joint angle. We recommend rotating the rear pinion up and having a CV joint installed on the tcase end of your drive shaft. This eliminates the vibrations and moves the pinion several inches up for more clearance under the U-Joint. To rotate the pinion up it is necessary to cut off the original perches. Our perch kit is included with the lift and includes new perches, bolts, plates and shock mounts."

you will notice that their kit isnt just a simple bolt on, it requires some cutting and welding to be done. If i were you id call allpro and tell them what you have and what you want to do, and see what price they can do on that full kit . . . minus the hy-steer. Thats my 0.02

What full kit are we talking about? I really don't need: The Extream Kit at 2,000+.
My original idea was just the springs and maybe a u bolt flip kit and shocks all around. But now that I look at it I might as well go and replace all the stock suspension stuff. So now I'm looking into:
For the Rear
Rear Kit: $559
springs, hangers, shocks, break lines, and perch kit
For the Front
Front springs and hanger kit: $399
springs, hanger, and shackels
Shock hoops: $89
Shocks: $150(for 2)
Hy Steer: $449 - $459
IFS Box mounting kit: $19
I have an IFS Box from the 86 parts truck.
I'm guessing that is all i would need to re-do everything underneath. Now I have to figure if I can afford all that plus tires, gears, and driveshafts. Let me know if I'm leaving anything else out here. Or if you know of any better places to find deals, or better quality parts. This is getting really bad $$$
